Pharmacological action
Alpizarin has antiviral activity against DNA-containing viruses: Herpes simplex virus type I and II, Varicella zoster (shingles and chickenpox virus), cytomegalovirus.
In vitro experiments have shown the inhibitory effect of Alpizarin on HIV.
The inhibitory effect of Alpizarin on viral reproduction is particularly pronounced in the early stages of the disease.
The mechanism of action is realized extracellularly.
The drug prevents the virus from entering the cell, disrupting its reproduction.
Indications
Alpizarin is used in adults and children in complex therapy for acute and recurrent forms of herpes simplex of extragenital and genital localization, shingles, chickenpox, viral diseases of the oral mucosa, cytomegalovirus infection, Kaposi’s eczema herpetiforme.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.
Pregnancy.
Children under 3 years of age.
Lactase deficiency, lactose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption.
With caution: breast-feeding period.
Side effects
Possible allergic reactions.
How to take, course of use and dosage
Tablets are used regardless of food intake. Adults and children over 12 years of age are prescribed 1-2 tablets 3-4 times a day, children 6-12 years-1 tablet 2-3 times a day, children 3-6 years-1/2-1 tablet 2-3 times a day.
The therapeutic effect of the drug is most pronounced when it is prescribed in the initial period of the disease. The duration of treatment depends on the form and severity of the disease:
— In the case of common rashes in acute and recurrent forms of herpes simplex, both genital and extragenital localization, as well as in the presence of fever, lymphadenopathy and other general phenomena, the drug is used for 5-14 days.
– For Kaposi’s herpetiform eczema and cytomegalovirus infection-for 7-21 days as part of complex therapy. – For aphthous stomatitis, the drug is prescribed for 5-15 days.
— For diseases caused by Herpes zoster (shingles) and Varicella zoster (chickenpox) — within 5-21 days.
In case of relapses, repeated courses of treatment with the drug are carried out. To prevent relapses of herpesvirus infections, the drug is prescribed one month after the end of treatment for 10-14 days.
The maximum daily dose of the drug for children from 3 to 12 years is 300 mg (three tablets); for children over 12 years of age and adults-800 mg (eight tablets).
Overdose
So far, no overdose cases have been reported. Overdose is unlikely to occur.
Special instructions
- In the case of common lesions, and the presence of fever, lymphadenopathy, and other common phenomena used the drug “Alpizarin pills 100 mg” in combination with the drug “Alpizarin ointment for external and local application of 2% and 5%”,
- 1 tablet of the drug contains 0.1 g of sugar of milk (lactose) and 0,0475 g of potato starch that corresponds to 0.01 XE (bread units). The maximum daily dose of the drug for children from 3 to 12 years contains 0.03 XE; for children over 12 years and adults-0.08 XE.
- The drug does not affect the performance of potentially dangerous activities or those requiring increased concentration of attention and speed of psychomotor reactions (driving vehicles and working with moving mechanisms).
