Pharmacological action
A topical contraceptive drug. It has a spermatocidal effect, as well as antiseptic, antifungal, antiprotozoal effect, inactivates the Herpes simplex virus.
The drug is active against gram-positive bacteria (including Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp. ); gram-negative bacteria (including Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Proteus spp., Klebsiella spp. ); anaerobic bacteria, fungi and molds.
It is also active against bacterial strains resistant to antibiotics and other chemotherapeutic drugs; it suppresses plasmocoagulase and hyaluronidase of staphylococci.
The spermatocidal effect of the drug is due to the ability to damage the membranes of spermatozoa (at the beginning of the flagella, then the head), which makes it impossible to fertilize the egg with damaged sperm. The effect develops 5 minutes after the introduction of a vaginal suppository.
It is active in the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases (including gonorrhea, chlamydia, trichomoniasis). It does not affect the normal microflora of the vagina (including Dederlein’s wand) and the hormonal cycle.
Indications
Local contraception for women of reproductive age:
- if there are contraindications to the use of oral contraceptives or intrauterine contraception;
- in the postpartum period;
- during lactation;
- in the period after termination of pregnancy;
- in the premenopausal period;
- if episodic protection from pregnancy is necessary;
- if you miss or are late in taking constantly used oral contraceptives.
Use during pregnancy and lactation
The drug does not have a harmful effect on the course of pregnancy.
The drug can be used during breastfeeding, since it is not excreted in breast milk.
Contraindications
- colpitis;
- ulceration and irritation of the uterine and vaginal mucosa;
- hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.
Side effects
Allergic reactions, contact dermatitis, itching and burning in the partner’s vagina and / or penis, painful urination.
Interaction
Any drug administered intravaginally can reduce the local spermicidal effect (including soap and solutions containing it).
Iodine solutions (including 0.1% iodonate solution) inactivate the drug.
How to take, course of use and dosage
Having previously released the suppository from the contour package, it is inserted deep into the vagina in the supine position 5 minutes before sexual intercourse; the duration of action is 4 hours.
Single dose: 1 suppository is designed for 1 sexual act.
Be sure to introduce a new vaginal suppository in case of repeated sexual acts.
The frequency of use is limited by the individual tolerance of the Active ingredient and the frequency of sexual acts.
