Composition

1 ml of the solution contains 100 mg of povidone-iodine;

excipients:

glycerin,

Nonoxynol-9 9,

citric acid anhydrous,

disodium dihydrogen phosphate,

10% sodium hydroxide solution (m/o) for pH determination,

purified water

Pharmacological action

Betadine is an antiseptic and disinfectant. Released from the complex with polyvinylpyrrolidone upon contact with the skin and mucous membranes, iodine forms iodamines with bacterial cell proteins, coagulates them and causes the death of microorganisms. It has a bactericidal effect on gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria (with the exception of Mycobacterium tuberculosis).

Active against bacteria, fungi, viruses, protozoa.

Indications

-Treatment of the patient’s skin before and after surgical procedures (including injections, punctures, biopsies, blood sampling) – – treatment of wounds, burns, trophic ulcers, pressure sores, superinfectious dermatitis – – hygienic treatment of patients

Use during pregnancy and lactation

Betadine is not recommended for use from 3 months of pregnancy and during lactation.

If it is necessary to conduct therapy, the doctor decides on the appointment of the drug individually.

It is necessary to monitor the thyroid function in newborns and children whose mothers used Betadine.

Contraindications

-Hyperthyroidism; – thyroid adenoma; – Duhring’s herpetiform dermatitis; – simultaneous use of radioactive iodine – – children under 8 years of age; – hypersensitivity to iodine and other components of the drug.

The drug should be used with caution during pregnancy and lactation (breastfeeding).

Side effects

Possible:  local manifestation of an allergic reaction to iodine (pruritus, hyperemia), which requires discontinuation of the drug.

Interaction

Betadine is incompatible with other disinfectants and antiseptics, especially those containing alkalis, enzymes and mercury.

How to take, course of use and dosage

Solution Betadine can be used without dilution or as an aqueous solution at a dilution of 1: 10 or 1: 100.

To disinfect the skin on its healthy areas, apply an undiluted solution with an exposure of 1-2 minutes.

When treating wounds, burns, bacterial and fungal skin lesions, an aqueous solution of Betadine is used in a dilution of 1: 10.

For hygienic treatment of the patient, an aqueous solution of Betadine is used in a dilution of 1: 100.

Overdose

There are no data on overdose of Betadine.

Special instructions

Dilution of the betadine solution should be performed immediately before use. Dilute solution should not be stored!

The solution of the drug should have a dark brown color. Discoloration of the solution indicates the destruction of the polyvinylpyrrolidone iodine complex and a decrease in the effectiveness of the drug.

Light and temperatures above 40°C accelerate the breakdown of the Active ingredient of the drug. If thyroid function is impaired, the drug can only be used under the supervision of a doctor.

Staining on leather and fabrics is easily washed off with water. After contact with the drug, avoid contact with the eyes.
