Composition
1 chewable tablet contains:
active ingredients:
polymaltose iron complex in an amount equivalent to the content of 100 mg of elemental iron and folic acid 350 mcg
Pharmacological action
Biofer is a combined drug that stimulates erythropoiesis in iron deficiency anemia.
Iron is involved in the synthesis of hemoglobin, myoglobin, cytochrome oxidase, catalase and peroxidase, folic acid-in the synthesis of amino acids, nucleic acids, purines and pyrimidines, in choline metabolism, contributes to the normal maturation of megaloblasts and the formation of normoblasts.
Pharmacokinetics
After absorption into the gastrointestinal tract, iron binds to plasma transferin and is either incorporated into synthetic reactions or deposited in tissues as ferritin. The release of iron occurs in the feces, urine, and sweat.
Folic acid is absorbed mainly in the upper parts of the intestine (in the duodenum) and binds to proteins by 64%.
It is metabolized in the liver, mainly by the kidneys, and also partially by the intestines. T1/2 — 22.4 hours.
Indications
Iron deficiency anemia (including during pregnancy, lactation).
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity,
- hemochromatosis,
- hemosiderosis,
- aplastic,
- hemolytic,
- achrestic,
- lead,
- pernicious anemia,
- impaired iron absorption.
Side effects
Dyspepsia (feeling of fullness and pressure in the epigastric region, nausea, vomiting, constipation or diarrhea), dark color of feces (due to the removal of unabsorbed iron and has no clinical significance), allergic reactions
Interaction
Antacids and tetracycline antibiotics reduce absorption.
How to take, course of use and dosage
Inside,1 tablet 2-3 times a day, during or immediately after meals, until the hemoglobin parameters normalize, then continue taking 1 tablet a day until the end of pregnancy (or lactation).
To prevent anemia, take 1 tablet per day.
The course of treatment – at least 2 months, maintenance therapy – up to 2-3 months.
Overdose
Symptoms: increased manifestations of side effects.
Treatment: in case of suspected overdose-determination of serum iron content and serum ferritin level.
In case of significant excess of normal parameters, it is necessary to prescribe an iron chelator-deferoxamine.
Special instructions
It is possible to stain the stool in a dark color.
At the beginning of treatment, it is necessary to examine the level of serum iron and ferritin. Treatment is carried out until the blood picture (hemoglobin and serum ferritin levels) normalizes.
