Composition

Pharmacological action

The expectorant effect of breast elixir is due to the action of its components. – licorice root extract has some anti-inflammatory and expectorant properties, which are associated with the content of glycyrrhizin in the roots, which stimulates the activity of the ciliated epithelium in the trachea and bronchi, as well as enhances the secretory function of the mucous membranes of the upper respiratory tract;- anise oil has an expectorant effect due to the content of anethole in the oil, which promotes reflex arousal of respiration, increases the activity of the ciliated epithelium of the respiratory tract and increases the secretion of the mucous membranes of the larynx, trachea, bronchi;- ammonia has an irritating effect, which leads to excitation of the endings of the sensitive nerves of the upper respiratory tract and reflex stimulation of the respiratory center.

Indications

As an expectorant for infectious and inflammatory diseases of the respiratory tract, accompanied by the formation of difficult-to-separate sputum (including tracheitis, tracheobronchitis, bronchitis).

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, bronchial asthma, gastritis, peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum during exacerbation, pregnancy, lactation. With caution. Liver diseases, alcoholism, traumatic brain injury, brain diseases.

Side effects

Allergic reactions are possible, and in some cases diarrhea may occur.

Interaction

If necessary, it can be used in combination with antibiotics and other drugs. It should not be used simultaneously with antitussive medications, as this makes it difficult to cough up liquefied sputum.

How to take, course of use and dosage

Inside,3-4 times a day. Adults — 20-40 drops, children are prescribed as many drops as the child is old. Before use, it should be diluted in a small amount of water.

The course of treatment is 7-10 days. An increase in the duration and repeated courses of treatment is possible on the recommendation of a doctor.

Overdose

Symptoms:  with prolonged use in excess of these dosages, hypokalemia, increased blood pressure, and hypotension are possible. Blood pressure, the appearance of peripheral edema due to a violation of water-salt metabolism.

Treatment:  symptomatic.

Special instructions

The drug contains 90% ethyl alcohol. The content of absolute ethyl alcohol in one drop of the drug is 0.0075 g, in the maximum single dose for adults — up to 0.3 g, in the maximum daily dose — up to 1.2 g.

Influence on the ability to drive motor vehicles and engage in other potentially dangerous activities. During treatment, care should be taken when driving vehicles and engaging in other potentially dangerous activities that require increased concentration of attention and speed of psychomotor reactions.
