Composition

Active ingredient: choline alfoscerate polyhydrate (in terms of choline alfoscerate) – 250 mg. Auxiliary substance: water for injection-up to 1 ml

Pharmacological action

of Choline alfoscerate as a carrier of choline and a precursor of phosphatidylcholine has the potential to prevent and correct biochemical damage, which is of particular importance among the pathogenetic factors of psychoorganic involution syndrome, that is, it can affect the reduction of cholinergic transmission and damaged phospholipid composition of nerve cell membranes.

The chemical structure of choline alfoscerate (containing 40.5% choline) has the property of metabolic protection and ensures the release of the Active ingredient – choline in brain tissues.

Choline alfoscerate has a positive effect on memory functions and cognitive abilities, as well as on indicators of emotional state and behavior, the deterioration of which was caused by the development of involutional brain pathology.

Pharmacokinetics

the Pharmacokinetic characteristics of radioactively labeled drug was similar in different animal species (rats, dogs, monkeys) and consisted of the following: absorption from the gastrointestinal tract completely and quickly; rapidly accumulated and distributed in various organs and tissues, including the brain; renal excretion is about 10% of the administered dose for 96 hours; the concentration of the drug is higher in the brain compared to choline-labeled with tritium.

Indications

Psychoorganic syndrome on the background of involutional and degenerative processes in the brain, the consequences of cerebrovascular insufficiency or primary and secondary cognitive disorders in the elderly, characterized by memory impairment, confusion, disorientation, decreased motivation and initiative, decreased concentration of attention.

Behavioral and affective disorders in old age: emotional lability, increased irritability, decreased interest.

Senile pseudomelancholia.

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to choline alfoscerate and drugs with a similar chemical structure;
• Hemorrhagic stroke (acute stage);
• Pregnancy;
• Lactation period;
• Children under 18 years of age.

Side effects

From the digestive system: constipation, diarrhea, nausea, dryness of the oral mucosa, pharyngitis.

Nervous system disorders: headache, drowsiness, insomnia, aggressiveness, anxiety, nervousness, dizziness.

Skin disorders: rash, urticaria.

Other: pain at the injection site, increased urination.

Interaction

No significant drug interaction of choline alfoscerate with other drugs was detected.

How to take, course of use and dosage

The drug is administered intramuscularly or intravenously (drip, slowly) in a dose of 1000 mg (1 ampoule) per day, for 10 days.

If necessary and in the case of good tolerability, the dose of the drug and the duration of treatment can be increased by the attending physician, depending on the clinical picture, features of the course of the disease, age and tolerability of the drug.

If adverse reactions occur, the dose of the drug may be reduced.

Overdose

Symptoms: nausea. Treatment: symptomatic therapy.

Special instructions

Nausea may be a consequence of dopaminergic activation. If this symptom occurs, it is recommended to reduce the dose of the drug. As a rule, the drug is well tolerated even with prolonged use. Influence on the ability to drive motor vehicles and control mechanisms During treatment, care should be taken when driving vehicles and when engaging in potentially dangerous activities that require increased concentration of attention and speed of psychomotor reactions.
