Pharmacological action
Differin-comedonolytic, anti-inflammatory.
Pharmacodynamics
Adapalene is a retinoid metabolite, has comedonolytic and anti-inflammatory activity, normalizes the processes of keratinization and epidermal differentiation.
The mechanism of action of adapalene is based on interaction with specific gamma-receptors of epidermal skin cells. As a result of the action of adapalene, in particular, there is a decrease in the “cohesion” of epithelial cells in the mouth of the sebaceous-hair follicle and a decrease in the prerequisites for the formation of microcomedones.
Adapalene has an anti-inflammatory effect in vivo and in vitro, affecting inflammatory factors by inhibiting leukocyte migration in the inflammatory focus and arachidonic acid metabolism.
Pharmacokinetics
The absorption of adapalene through the skin is very low (about 4% of the applied dose). Excretion from the body occurs mainly through bile.
Indications
Acne.
Use during pregnancy and lactation
Differin is contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to one of the ingredients of the drug.
With caution: Â Dermatitis, eczema.
Side effects
Skin irritation (treatment should be suspended until the skin irritation disappears or the frequency of application should be reduced).
Interaction
Since the drug does not interact with oxygen and is not destroyed by light, it can be used with other topical and systemic acne medications, such as clindamycin phosphate or benzoyl peroxide.
How to take, course of use and dosage
Externally. Apply the gel or cream evenly to the affected area once a day before going to bed on clean, dry skin, avoiding contact with the eyes and lips.
The therapeutic effect develops after 4-8 weeks of treatment, a steady improvement after 3 months of treatment.
In some cases, due to short-term skin irritation, the number of applications may be reduced or treatment may be suspended until the signs of irritation disappear.
A second course of treatment is possible after consulting a doctor.
Special instructions
Avoid contact with the gel or cream in the eyes, on the lips and on the mucous membranes.
In case of accidental contact with the mucous membranes of the eyes, mouth or nose, rinse them thoroughly with warm water.
Avoid direct sunlight, as mild skin irritation may occur. Treatment can be continued if the sun exposure is kept to a minimum (using sunglasses and hats).
It is not recommended to use cosmetics with a drying or irritating effect on the skin at the same time (for example, perfume or alcohol-containing products).
Adapalene applied to the skin in the evening can be combined with acne medications used in the morning.
