Pharmacological action
Dimexide is an external remedy for topical application in inflammatory and some other diseases (mainly in diseases of the musculoskeletal system).
The drug has the ability to penetrate biological membranes, including through skin barriers.
The basis for use in inflammatory diseases of the musculoskeletal system is its analgesic and anti-inflammatory effect.
The drug has a moderate antiseptic and fibrinolytic effect. Enhances the penetration of a number of medicinal substances through the skin. Dimexide is low-toxic.
Indications
Inflammatory and painful phenomena in the complex therapy of rheumatoid arthritis, Ankylosing spondylitis, deforming osteoarthritis, arthropathies, as well as bruises, sprains, traumatic infiltrates, purulent wounds (which are not cleaned or poorly cleaned by conventional methods of treatment), burns, phlegmons of various localization, etc.
It is also used in the treatment of erythema nodosum.
In combination with heparin, it is used for thrombophlebitis, in combination with antimicrobial drugs (Synthomycin liniment, etc. ) – in the complex treatment of systemic scleroderma, furunculosis, erysipelas, acne, etc.
Contraindications

Side effects
Allergic reactions, rarely bronchospasm.

How to take, course of use and dosage
Externally. In the form of compresses, tampons, mainly in aqueous solutions of 30-50% concentration.
In the treatment of erysipelas and trophic ulcers, dimexide is used in 30-50% aqueous solutions of 50-100 ml 2-3 times a day.
For eczema, diffuse streptoderma, compresses with 40-90% dimexide solution are recommended.
For pustular skin diseases, a 40% dimexide solution is used.
For local anesthesia with pain syndromes, a 25-50% solution is prescribed in the form of compresses of 100-150 ml 2-3 times a day.
In the treatment of deep burns, bandages with 20-30% dimexide solution are used.
Special instructions
 Due to the fact that dimexide can increase not only the activity, but also the toxicity of certain drugs, caution should be exercised when prescribing it simultaneously with other drugs.
It is recommended to conduct a drug tolerance test for the drug.
To do this, dimexide is applied to the skin using a cotton swab soaked in it.
The appearance of sharp redness and itching indicates hypersensitivity.
If allergic reactions occur during treatment with the drug, antihistamines are prescribed.
