Composition

of 1 pack:

– dioctahedral smectite 3 g;

Auxiliary substances:

glucose (dextrose) 0.749 g,

vanillin 0.004 g,

soluble saccharin (sodium saccharinate) 0.007 g.

Pharmacological action

Pharmaceutical group:

antidiarrheal agent.

Pharmaceutical action:  

The drug is of natural origin, has an adsorbing effect. Stabilizes the mucosal barrier, forms polyvalent bonds with mucus glycoproteins, increases the amount of mucus, improves its gastroprotective properties (against the negative effects of hydrogen ions HCl, bile salts, microorganisms and their toxins). It has selective sorption properties, which are explained by its discoid-crystal structure; it adsorbs bacteria and viruses located in the lumen of the gastrointestinal tract (GIT). In therapeutic doses, it does not affect intestinal motility.

Pharmacokinetics:

It is not absorbed and is excreted unchanged.

Indications

Diarrhea (allergic, medicinal origin; violation of the diet and quality of food); diarrhea of infectious origin – as part of complex therapy. Symptomatic treatment of heartburn, flatulence, and other symptoms of dyspepsia associated with gastrointestinal diseases.

Use during pregnancy and lactation

It is possible to use the drug Diosmektit during pregnancy and lactation according to indications.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity, intestinal obstruction.

Side effects

Constipation, allergic reactions.

Interaction

Reduces the rate and degree of absorption of drugs taken simultaneously.

How to take, course of use and dosage

Adults are prescribed 3 packages per day for a minimum of 3 days. In case of acute diarrhea at the beginning of treatment, the daily dose may be doubled.

Before taking the contents of 1 packet, dissolve in half a glass of water. To obtain a homogeneous suspension, gradually pour the powder into the liquid, stirring it evenly. With esophagitis, the drug Diosmectit is preferable to take after a meal, in other cases-between meals.

Children under the age of 1 year are prescribed 1 package per day; from 1 to 2 years-2 packages per day; older than 2 years-2-3 packages per day.

The course of treatment is at least 3 days. The contents of the package are dissolved in a baby bottle designed for 50 ml of water, and distributed in several receptions during the day, or thoroughly mixed with some semi-liquid product: soup, porridge, compote, puree, baby food.

Special instructions

The patient should consult a doctor if there is no reduction in symptoms after taking the drug for 3 days, as well as in cases where abdominal pain is accompanied by fever or vomiting.

Do not use concomitantly with other medications. Any other medication is recommended to be taken 1-1.5 hours before taking Diosmectin.
