Pharmacodynamics

Espumizan ® is a drug that reduces the amount of gas in the intestines. Active ingredient – simethicone has surface activity and the ability to reduce surface tension at the liquid / gas interface. In this case, the gas bubbles merge and the foam is destroyed, as a result of which the released gas is able to be absorbed and removed naturally under the influence of intestinal motility. The use of Espumizan ® in preparation for diagnostic tests prevents the occurrence of image defects caused by gas bubbles.

Pharmacokinetics

Simethicone is chemically inert; after oral use, it is not absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) and acts only in its lumen. It does not affect the enzymes and microorganisms present in the gastrointestinal tract. It is output unchanged.

Indications

– excessive formation and accumulation of gases in the digestive tract (bloating, roemheld syndrome, aerophagia, flatulence in the postoperative period);

– preparation for diagnostic studies of the abdomen and pelvis (ultrasound, x-rays, etc. );

– the symptoms of excess gas formation caused by functional dyspepsia;

– poisoning with detergents containing blowing agent (as agent).

Use during pregnancy and lactation

The drug Espumizan can be used during pregnancy and during breastfeeding.

Contraindications

-hypersensitivity to the components of the drug;

– intestinal obstruction;

– children under 6 years of age.

Side effects

No side effects were observed when taking the drug Espumizan. It is possible to develop allergic reactions to the auxiliary components of the drug.

Interaction

No clinically significant interaction of Espumizan with other medicinal products has been established.

How to take, course of use and dosage

For complaints related to excessive gas formation:

Adults and children over 6 years of age: 2 capsules 3-5 times a day, with a small amount of liquid, after each meal and, if necessary, before going to bed. The duration of treatment depends on the presence of symptoms of increased gas formation. If necessary, the drug Espumizan can also be used for a long period of time.

Preparation for diagnostic tests: 2 capsules 3 times a day the day before the study, and in the morning on the day of the study 2 capsules, not washed down with water.

As a defoamer for poisoning with detergents containing foaming substances: a single dose for adults is 10-20 capsules, for children over 6 years: 3-10 capsules in one dose; dosage depends on the severity of intoxication.

Overdose

Overdose of Espumizan is unlikely due to the chemical and physiological inertia of the drug.

Round yellow gelatin capsules with a seam and smooth surface; capsule contents: colorless, viscous, slightly opalescent liquid.

Special instructions

People with hypersensitivity to the components of the drug (methyl parahydroxybenzoate and quinoline yellow dye) may experience immediate hypersensitivity reactions, as well as delayed hypersensitivity reactions. If any allergic reactions occur, the drug should be stopped immediately and consult a doctor.

Influence on the ability to drive vehicles and work with mechanisms

The drug Espumizan also does not affect the speed of psychomotor reactions and the ability to perceive or evaluate the situation.

25 capsules in a blister of PVC/aluminum foil.

1,2 or 4 blisters in a cardboard box together with the instructions for use.
