Composition

Enteric pills are white in color, glossy, round, with a faint vanilla smell.

Auxiliary substances:

sodium chloride.

Shell composition:

cellacephate (cellulose acetate phthalate), ethyl vanillin, castor oil, sucrose, methyl parahydroxybenzoate (methylparaben), propyl parahydroxybenzoate (propylparaben), gelatin, dextrose liquid (glucose liquid), talc, calcium carbonate, acacia gum, glycerol (glycerin), macrogol (polyethylene glycol 6000), titanium dioxide.

Pharmacological action

The drug compensates for the insufficiency of the external secretory function of the pancreas due to pancreatin and biliary function of the liver due to the bile component.

Festal® it has proteolytic, amylolytic and lipolytic effects. The enzymes that make up pancreatin (amylase, lipase and protease) facilitate the digestion of carbohydrates, fats and proteins, which contributes to their more complete absorption in the small intestine.

The presence of Festal®in the composition of the drug bile acids provide additional opportunities for the correction of biliary insufficiency, which often accompanies chronic pancreatitis.

Bile extract has a choleretic effect, facilitates the absorption of fats and fat-soluble vitamins A, E and K, promotes the release of lipase by the pancreas.

The enzyme hemicellulase promotes the breakdown of plant fiber, which also improves digestive processes, reduces the formation of gases in the intestines.

Indications

Insufficiency of external secretory function of the pancreas in chronic pancreatitis in combination with biliary insufficiency due to various pathological conditions, clinically manifested by impaired digestion of food, flatulence, a tendency to constipation.

As part of combination therapy for:

• diffuse liver diseases – alcoholic and toxic liver lesions, cirrhosis of the liver;
• large bile acid losses (in patients after cholecystectomy);
• bile acid circulation disorders observed in biliary dyskinesia, dysbiosis, malabsorption;
• violation of neurohumoral regulation of bile formation and bile secretion in chronic gastrointestinal diseases – chronic gastritis, chronic duodenitis, chronic cholecystitis.

To improve the digestion of food in patients with normal gastrointestinal function in case of errors in nutrition, as well as with violations of masticatory function, forced prolonged immobilization, sedentary lifestyle.

Preparation for X-ray and ultrasound examination of the abdominal organs.

Recommendations for use

The drug should be taken orally, without chewing, during or immediately after a meal, with a small amount of liquid.

Adults are prescribed 1-2 tablets 3 times a day. Higher doses are prescribed by the doctor.

Use of the drug in children as prescribed by a doctor.

The duration of treatment can vary from several days (if the digestive process is disrupted due to dietary errors) to several months or years (if permanent replacement therapy is required).

Before X-ray or ultrasound examination – 2 tablets 2-3 times / day for 2-3 days before the study.

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug;
• acute pancreatitis;
• exacerbation of chronic pancreatitis;
• liver failure;
• hepatic coma or precoma;
• hepatitis;
• hyperbilirubinemia;
• mechanical jaundice;
• cholelithiasis;
• gallbladder empyema;
• intestinal obstruction;
• tendency to diarrhea;
• children under 3 years of age (for this dosage form).

With caution:  cystic fibrosis, pregnancy.

Side effects

Allergic reactions:  hyperemia of the skin, sneezing, lacrimation, anaphylactic reactions, including urticaria, angioedema.

From the digestive system:  nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain (including intestinal colic), vomiting, irritation of the oral mucosa (including in children).

With prolonged use in high doses:  possible – hyperuricemia, hyperuricosuria.

When used in high doses in children:  possible-perianal irritation; children with cystic fibrosis may develop ileus and constipation.

Interaction

When used concomitantly with Festal® the absorption of PaSCs, sulfonamides, and antibiotics increases. It is possible to reduce the absorption of iron preparations.

Prolonged use of pancreatin may reduce the absorption of iron supplements.

Concomitant use of antacids containing calcium carbonate and / or magnesium hydroxide may reduce the effectiveness of pancreatin.

Cimetidine may enhance the effect of pancreatin.

Pancreatin may reduce the effect of acarbose, so Festal® and acarbose should not be used simultaneously.

Pancreatin may reduce the absorption of folic acid.

Overdose

Symptoms:  hyperuricemia and hyperuricosuria.

Treatment:  discontinuation of the drug and symptomatic therapy.

Special instructions

The drug should be used with caution in patients with cystic fibrosis.

Storage conditions

The drug should be stored out of the reach of children at a temperature not exceeding 25°C.

Shelf

life is 3 years. Do not use after the expiration date indicated on the package.
