Composition
1 tablet contains aluminum hydroxide 400 mg;
magnesium hydroxide 400 mg
Pharmacological action
Neutralizes free hydrochloric acid in the stomach, which leads to a decrease in the digesting activity of gastric juice.
It does not cause secondary hypersecretion of gastric juice.
It has an adsorbing and enveloping effect, reduces the influence of damaging factors on the gastric mucosa.
Indications
- Peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum in the acute phase;
- Acute gastritis, chronic gastritis with increased and normal secretory function in the acute phase, duodenitis, enteritis;
- Hiatal hernia, reflux esophagitis;
- Discomfort and pain in the epigastrium due to errors in the diet, after taking medications, drinking coffee, nicotine, alcohol;
- Prophylactically used in the treatment with glucocorticosteroids and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
Use during pregnancy and lactation
Contraindicated during pregnancy. Use with caution during lactation.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug. Sucrose / isomaltase deficiency, fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption. Hypophosphatemia, severe renal impairment, children under 10 years of age, Alzheimer’s disease, pregnancy.
With caution: during lactation.
Side effects
Constipation, nausea, vomiting, spastic stomach pain, changes in taste sensations, hypermagnesemia, hypophosphatemia, hypocalcemia, hypercalciuria, osteomalacia, osteoporosis, hyperaluminemia, encephalopathy, nephrocalcinosis, impaired renal function, allergic reactions.
In patients with concomitant renal insufficiency – thirst, decreased blood pressure, hyporeflexia.
Interaction
It can adsorb certain medications, thus reducing their absorption.
Reduces and slows down the absorption of digoxin, Indometacin, salicylates, chlorpromazine, phenytoin, H2-histamine receptor blockers, beta-blockers, diflunisal, isoniazid, tetracycline antibiotics, quinolones (ciprofloxacin, norfloxacin, ofloxacin, enoxacin, grepafloxacin, etc. ), azithromycin, cefpodoxime dipyridamole, zalcitabine, bile acids – henodeoxycholic and ursodeoxycholic, penicillamine, iron and lithium preparations, quinidine, lansoprazole, mexiletine, ketoconazole.
When taken concomitantly with enteric-coated drugs, the increased alkalinity of gastric juice can lead to accelerated disruption of the membrane and cause irritation of the stomach and duodenum. M-holinoblokatory, slowing down the emptying of the stomach, enhance and lengthen the effect of the drug.
How to take, course of use and dosage
Inside. Tablets should be chewed and kept in the mouth until completely absorbed.
Adults and children over 15 years of age 1-2 tablets 4 times a day. 1 hour after meals and in the evening before bedtime or in case of discomfort, epigastric pain, heartburn.
In case of gastric ulcer, the drug should be taken 30 minutes before meals. The maximum daily dose is 12 tablets.
Children from 10 to 15 years of age are prescribed half the recommended adult dose.
For prevention – 1 tablet 15 minutes before taking medications that irritate the mucous membrane of the esophagus, stomach and duodenum. The duration of treatment should not exceed 15-20 days.
Overdose
Symptoms: Formation of kidney stones, severe constipation, drowsiness, hypermagnesemia. There may also be signs of metabolic alkalosis: changes in mood, numbness or pain in the muscles, nervousness and rapid fatigue, unpleasant taste sensations.
Treatment: It is necessary to immediately take measures for rapid elimination of the drug: flush the stomach, induce vomiting, take activated charcoal.
Special instructions
The interval between taking Gastracid® and other medications should be 1-2 hours.
For longer-term use (more than 20 days), regular medical monitoring is necessary. The drug contains sorbitol, which is contraindicated in congenital fructose intolerance.
The drug does not affect the ability to drive vehicles and engage in other activities that require concentration of attention and speed of psychomotor reactions.
