Pharmacological action

Pharmacodynamics antimicrobial drug for the treatment of infectious and inflammatory diseases of the throat and oral cavity. The mechanism of action of gramicidin C is associated with an increase in the permeability of the cytoplasmic membrane of a microbial cell, which violates its stability and causes cell death. The drug reduces inflammation, softens unpleasant sensations in the throat, and facilitates swallowing. PHARMACOKINETICS Due to low systemic absorption, data on the pharmacokinetics of the drug are not available. The drug has a local effect and is practically not absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract, which causes almost complete absence of systemic effects.

Indications

Infectious and inflammatory diseases of the mouth and throat:

• acute tonsillitis (sore throat);
• pharyngitis;
• periodontal disease;
• gingivitis;
• stomatitis.

Use during pregnancy and lactation

If it is necessary to use the drug during pregnancy, you should consult your doctor in order to assess the ratio of benefits for the mother and potential risk to the fetus. Breast-feeding should be discontinued for the duration of treatment.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug; lactation period; children under 4 years of age.

How to take, course of use and dosage

Apply after meals, by slowly dissolving in the mouth, without chewing. Within 1-2 hours after using the drug, you should refrain from eating and drinking. Adults and children over 12 years of age: 2 tablets (one after the other for 20-30 minutes) 4 times a day. Children from 6 to 12 years: 1-2 tablets 4 times a day (but no more than 7 tablets per day). Children from 4 to 6 years: 1 tablet 4 times a day. The course of treatment is 5-6 days. Use for more than 6 days is possible on the recommendation of a doctor.

Overdose

Symptoms: taking doses higher than recommended may cause gastrointestinal disorders characteristic of an overdose of other antibiotics due to changes in the bacterial flora and superinfection: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea. Treatment: stop taking the drug and consult a doctor.

Special instructions

Gramicidin C in the form of an aqueous solution can be used within 3 days from the moment of preparation. It is impossible to enter solutions into a vein (phlebitis and hemolysis may develop). Patients with diabetes should take into account that each tablet contains 0.05 bread units (XE).
