Pharmacological action

Decoction of hawthorn fruit has a cardiotonic, antispasmodic and moderate sedative effect, shows antihypertensive properties, normalizes blood clotting parameters.

Indications

In the complex therapy of functional disorders of cardiovascular activity (neurocirculatory dystonia, cardialgia).

Recommendations for use

About 15 g (1 tablespoon) of hawthorn fruit is placed in an enamel bowl, pour 200 ml (1 cup) of hot boiled water, cover with a lid and insist on a boiling water bath for 30 minutes, cool at room temperature for 10 minutes, filter, the remaining raw materials are squeezed out. The volume of the resulting broth is brought with boiled water to 200 ml. Take inside 1/2-1/3 cup 2-3 times a day for 30 minutes before meals. The course of treatment is 20-30 days. It is recommended to shake the broth before use.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the drug, pregnancy (I trimester), childhood (up to 12 years).

Side effects

Possible allergic reactions. With prolonged use of the drug in large doses, drowsiness, decreased blood pressure, and bradycardia are possible.

Interaction

When combined with cardiac glycosides, the cardiotonic effect increases; with beta-blockers, the hypotensive effect may increase.

Description

The fruits are apple-shaped, spherical to ellipsoidal in shape, hard, wrinkled, sometimes with mechanical damage to the shell,6-14 mm long,5-11 mm wide, with an annular rim formed by shriveled sepals on top. In the pulp of the fruit there are 1-5 woody seeds that have an irregular triangular, oval or laterally compressed shape. The surface of the bones is pitted-wrinkled or furrowed along the back. Fruit color ranges from yellow-orange and brownish-red to dark brown or black, sometimes with a whitish coating of crystallized sugar. There is no smell. The taste of water extraction is sweet.

Storage conditions

Store in a dry place, protected from light. Ready broth should be stored in a cool place for no more than 2 days. Keep out of reach of children.
