Herpferon®, an ointment for topical and external use — is a combined drug with antiviral, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory and analgesic effects. Human recombinant Interferon alfa-2b has a pronounced antiviral activity (suppresses viral replication in infected cells) and an immunomodulatory effect (increases the phagocytic activity of macrophages in lesions). Acyclovir has a pronounced antiviral effect. It is highly active against the Herpes simplex virus of the 1st and 2nd types and the virus that causes chickenpox and shingles (Varicella zoster). Lidocaine has a local anesthetic and moderate antipruritic effect. The combination of active ingredients provides a more pronounced antiherpetic effect: it prevents the formation of new rash elements, reduces the likelihood of skin dissemination, accelerates healing, and reduces pain. Pharmacokinetics When using the ointment, systemic absorption is low: with intact skin, absorption is minimal, in the blood and urine it is not detected, with affected skin — moderate absorption.
