Pharmacological action

Iodinol is an iodine-containing antiseptic. The main active ingredient is molecular iodine, which has antiseptic properties.

When applied to large areas of the skin, iodine has a resorptive effect: it actively affects the metabolism, enhances the processes of dissimilation, participates in the synthesis of thyroxine, and has a proteolytic effect.

Polyvinyl alcohol is a high-molecular compound, the content of which in iodinol slows down the release of iodine and prolongs its interaction with body tissues; it also reduces the irritating effect of iodine on tissues. Iodine has a bactericidal effect on both gram-positive and gram-negative flora (most actively on streptococcal flora and Escherichia coli), as well as on pathogenic fungi and yeast.

More stable flora is staphylococcus, however, with prolonged use of the drug in 80% of cases, suppression of staphylococcal flora is noted. Pseudomonas aeruginosa is stable. The drug is not very toxic.

Indications

• : Chronic tonsillitis;
• otitis externa;
• chronic periodontitis, purulent surgical diseases;
• trophic and varicose ulcers;
• thermal and chemical burns.

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity,
• thyrotoxicosis,
• dermatitis herpetiformis,
• pregnancy,
• lactation,
• tympanic membrane perforation.

Use caution for children under 18 years of age.

How to take, course of use and dosage

Locally.

• In chronic tonsillitis washed (50 ml) lacunas of tonsils and supratonsillar space,4-5 washes with an interval of 2-3 days;
• purulent otitis daily for 2-4 weeks buried in the ear 5-8 drops;
• in atrophic rhinitis after pre-soften and remove crusts ingalipt in the nasal cavity and pharynx 2-3 times a week for 2-3 months;
• trophic and varicose ulcers, purulent wound surfaces and infected burns, purulent fistulas imposed a loose gauze bandage impregnated with the drug.
