Composition
Licorice roots.
The roots contain glycyrrhizic acid,
lycurazide,
liquiritoside,
flavonoids,
mucous membranes and other biologically active substances.
Pharmacological action
The decoction has an expectorant and anti-inflammatory effect.
Indications
In the complex therapy of infectious and inflammatory diseases of the respiratory tract (mainly in the presence of hard-to-separate, thick and viscous secretions);
hyperacid gastritis, peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum (as part of complex therapy).
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to licorice preparations;
bronchial asthma, gastritis, peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum during exacerbation, pregnancy, breastfeeding, children under 1 year of age.
Side effects
Allergic reactions are possible; in some cases, dyspeptic phenomena (diarrhea) may occur.
Interaction
It is possible to simultaneously prescribe other medications used in the treatment of bronchopulmonary diseases.
It should not be used simultaneously with drugs containing codeine and other antitussive agents, as this makes it difficult to cough up liquefied sputum.
How to take, course of use and dosage
About 8 g (2 tablespoons) of roots are placed in an enamel dish,200 ml (1 cup) of cooled boiled water is poured, covered with a lid and heated in a boiling water bath for 30 minutes, cooled at room temperature for 10 minutes, filtered, the remaining raw materials are squeezed out.
The volume of the resulting broth is brought with boiled water to 200 ml.
Take orally: adults and children over 12 years – 1 tablespoon 3-4 times a day, children from 5 to 12 years-1 dessert spoon 3-4 times a day, children from 3 to 5 years – 1 dessert spoon 2-3 times a day, children from 1 year to 3 years – 1 teaspoon 2-3 times a day.
The course of treatment is 2-3 weeks.
Before use, it is recommended to shake the broth.
Overdose
With prolonged use in doses exceeding the recommended ones, it is possible to increase blood pressure, hypokalemia, the appearance of peripheral edema due to impaired water-salt metabolism.
Treatment: symptomatic.

The drug does not affect the ability to perform potentially dangerous activities that require increased concentration of attention and speed of psychomotor reactions (including driving vehicles, working with moving mechanisms).

Pieces of roots of various shapes, usually fibrous, yellow in color or with remnants of cork, less often individual pieces of cork are grayish-brown or brown in color.
The smell is faint. The taste of water extraction is sweet, cloying, slightly irritating.
