Composition
The composition of 100 grams of solution includes 94 g of glycerol,3 g of water,2 g of potassium iodide and 1 g of iodine.
Pharmacological action
Iodine has a pronounced antimicrobial effect. The Active ingredient has a cauterizing effect in high concentrations. Small doses of elemental iodine have a local irritating effect. The principle of action is based on the ability of the Active ingredient to precipitate tissue proteins.
With regard to the metabolism of iodine, there is an increase in the processes of dissimilation. In patients with atherosclerosis, a decrease in the level of beta-lipoproteins and cholesterol in the blood is recorded. The Active ingredient can increase the lipoproteinase and fibrinolytic activity of serum, slow down blood clotting processes.
The accumulation of iodine in syphilitic gummies contributes to their softening, gradual resorption. At the same time, the accumulation of the active component in tuberculosis foci increases the inflammatory process. When the Active ingredient is released by the excretory glands, there is an increase in secretion, irritation of glandular tissues.
