Composition
One tablet contains-Aluminum Hydroxide 400.00 mgm Magnesium Hydroxide 400.00 MGM Auxiliary substances: mannitol, sucrose, powdered sugar with starch, sorbitol, sodium saccharinate, magnesium stearate, mint flavor.
Pharmacological action
Maalox is an antacid drug. Neutralizes free hydrochloric (hydrochloric) acid, which leads to a decrease in the peptic activity of gastric juice.
It does not cause secondary hypersecretion. It also has an adsorbing and enveloping effect, reducing the impact of damaging factors on the mucous membrane.
Maalox does not cause constipation. It is used as an adsorbent, enveloping and antacid agent for high acidity of gastric juice. Maalox soothes pain in the upper digestive tract for several hours.
Indications
- Peptic ulcer of stomach and duodenum in the acute phase;
- acute gastroduodenitis;
- chronic gastroduodenitis with normal and high secretory function in the acute phase;
- hernia hiatal;
- reflux esophagitis;
- phenomena of dyspepsia (and their prevention) arising out of the use of certain drugs (including NSAIDs, corticosteroids);
- discomfort or pain in the epigastrium, heartburn when errors in diet, excessive consumption of coffee, alcohol, nicotine.
Use during pregnancy and lactation
Contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation.
Contraindications
Severe renal dysfunction, hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.
Side effects
From the digestive system: Â rarely-constipation, nausea, vomiting, changes in taste sensations.
Other services: Â with prolonged use and impaired renal function-increased levels of magnesium and / or aluminum in the blood, phosphorus deficiency in the body, encephalopathy; in the elderly – exacerbation of diseases of the musculoskeletal system, Alzheimer’s disease.
Interaction
When taken concomitantly with Maalox, the absorption of tetracycline antibiotics, ciprofloxacin, ofloxacin, digoxin, Indometacin, acetylsalicylic acid (and other salicylates), histamine H2-receptor blockers, beta-blockers, aminazine, diflunisalum, isoniazid, phenytoin, and phosphorus-containing drugs decreases.
When used concomitantly, Maalox may increase the level of quinidine in the blood plasma, which increases the risk of overdose.
How to take, course of use and dosage
Maalox is usually taken 1-1.5 hours after a meal or when pain occurs.
Adults: appoint 1-2 tablets 3-4 times a day.
Special instructions
A 2-hour interval should be observed between taking Maalox and other medications.
When prescribing the drug to children, the dosage regimen is set individually; it is not recommended to use the drug in children under 12 years of age without consulting a doctor.
