Mardilselen Seleniuis: A Skin Treatment Solution
Mardilselen Seleniuis is a cauterizing and mummifying medication used for the local therapy of skin lesions. It is presented as an external use solution in a dark glass vial containing five glass microcapillaries.
What is Mardilselen Seleniuis?
Mardilselen Seleniuis is designed to stop the development and vital activities of pathologically changed cells, including:
- Benign skin neoplasms
- Malignant non-metastatic skin tumors
Makeup of the Product
Mardilselen Seleniuis contains 2,2-dichloropropionic acid 70 with a selenium concentration of 0.45 from selenious acid. It is a translucent, colorless, or pale yellow liquid with a specific smell. Minor sedimentation may occur.
Advantages and Results
When applied to the affected skin area, Mardilselen Seleniuis:
- Dehydrates the tissue
- Angiocoagulates the tissue
- Devitalizes the tissue
This process stops the proliferation of pathologically changed cells and renders them inactive. The solution directly fixes and mummifies the tissue it comes in contact with. Following application, the skin will exhibit a distinctive grayish or white-gray color. As the tissue mummifies, it dries and turns dark brown.
Exfoliation of the developed mummified scab will occur 24 weeks later. Healing is usually simple and does not cause notable scars, tissue distortions, or organ malfunction, provided there is no secondary infection.
What Does Mardilselen Seleniuis Treat?
Mardilselen Seleniuis is recommended for the external treatment of the following skin disorders:
- Benign skin tumors
- Benign cutaneous neoplasms of viral character
- Benign neoplasms of the vas vessels
- Basal cell carcinoma
How to Use Mardilselen Seleniuis
Mardilselen Seleniuis is for external use only. Treatment is typically completed as an outpatient, usually under medical supervision. Follow these steps for application:
- Degrade the surface of the formation using a 70-ethyl alcohol solution.
- Immediately treat the formation with the solution using a thin wooden spatula or the included glass capillary.
A temporary strip of hyperemia and edema may appear around the tumor, which usually subsides on its own within 24 to 48 hours. To prevent complications, treat the affected area twice a day with a nonalcoholic antibiotic for fourteen days.
On the second day following Mardilselen Seleniuis application, the pathological focus will be mummified, significantly reduced in size, and turn dark brown. For benign neoplasms, the mummified scabs will separate independently between two to three weeks. For basal cell carcinoma, this process takes two to four weeks.
Dosage and Administration
The dosage of Mardilselen Seleniuis depends on the size, degree, density, and type of hyperkeratosis. The maximum daily dose is 0.2 ml.
For benign skin neoplasms, treatment usually involves several applications of the solution at intervals of 12 minutes until a white-gray or grayish tint is obtained. This color change typically occurs within 2-3 minutes, or 5-7 minutes with extreme hyperkeratosis. The denser the consistency of the neoplasm, the longer the color change will take. If the tumor is large or exhibits severe hyperkeratosis, repeated application of the solution may be necessary.
For basal cell carcinoma, the affected area, including 12 mm of visually healthy skin, is treated with several medication applications spaced 12 minutes apart until a thick white-gray hue is achieved. This usually takes two to three minutes, and the duration depends on the density of the neoplasm. The clinical form, stage, and tumor density help determine the appropriate dosage. The goal is to achieve a 0.2 mL daily dosage. For stage I basal cell carcinoma, the typical course of treatment involves three treatments on days 1, 2, or 3, and days 8 or 9. The doctor may recommend another application once the mummified scab has separated.
Possible Side Effects
Mardilselen Seleniuis can cause superficial scar distortions and alterations in skin pigment. These are rare, however, and typically occur only in cases of aberrant epithelialization, subsequent infection, or mummified scabs that cannot separate independently.
Other possible side effects include:
- Tissue swelling
- Rare incidences of allergic reactions (itching) due to individual reactivity to the drugs components
Contraindications
Mardilselen Seleniuis is contraindicated for use in the following conditions:
- Pregnancy
- Breastfeeding
- Children under eighteen years old
Important Considerations
Using Mardilselen Seleniuis requires adherence to the following key measures:
- Handle the medication carefully.
- Shake the bottle before opening to ensure a well-mixed solution.
- Keep the bottle upright after opening.
- Avoid contact with healthy skin or mucous membranes. If contact occurs, gently remove the solution using a cotton swab wet with water.
- Apply cautiously to areas close to the eye. If the solution gets in the eyes, wash them thoroughly with plenty of water and a 1% sodium bicarbonate solution. Seek immediate medical attention.
- Refrain from scraping or mechanically removing the mummified scab. Allow it to peel off on its own to prevent compromising tissue healing and scar development.
- Avoid swimming in open water bodies or pools, as well as direct sunlight or artificial UV radiation, until the treated area has healed completely. Limit water treatments scheduled for the therapy day.
- Keep the treated area free from trauma and pollution until complete epithelialization is achieved.
- Rinse the remaining solution in running water before discarding the old bottle and properly dispose of the bottle afterwards.
Interactions
The interaction of Mardilselen Seleniuis with other medications for external use is unknown.
