Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Antiseptic agent for topical application on the mucous membranes. It has antimicrobial, antifungal, analgesic, enveloping and deodorizing effects. Antimicrobial action of Maxicold® Ent is associated with suppression of oxidative reactions of bacterial metabolism (hexetidine is a thiamine antagonist).
The drug has a wide spectrum of antibacterial and antifungal effects, in particular against gram-positive bacteria and fungi of the genus Candida, but the drug Maxicold® Ent can also have an effect in the treatment of infections caused, for example, by Pseudomonas Aeruginosa or Proteus. At a concentration of 100 mg / ml, the drug suppresses most bacterial strains. No stability development was observed.
Maxicold® Ent has a weak anesthetic effect on the mucous membrane.
The drug has an antiviral effect against influenza A viruses, respiratory syncytial virus (MS-virus), herpes simplex virus type 1, affecting the respiratory tract.
Pharmacokinetics
After a single application, the local action of hexetidine lasts 10-12 hours. The drug is practically not absorbed from the surface of the mucous membranes and does not have a systemic effect. After a single application of the Active ingredient, its traces are found on the gum mucosa for 65 hours. In dental plaques, active concentrations persist for 10-14 hours after application.

How to take, course of use and dosage
Topically, after a meal, or in between meals. With the help of a spray, the affected areas in the oral cavity and pharynx are treated. To use the drug correctly, follow these steps: :
- Remove the cap from the cylinder and install the spray gun in the appropriate opening in the upper part of the cylinder.
- During the first use, it is necessary to first perform several short-term taps on the spray gun (in order to ensure uniform spraying of the contents of the cylinder).
- Inject the required amount of the drug into the oral cavity by pressing the nebulizer all the way down 3-4 times. During the use of the drug, you should hold your breath.
- After use, remove the spray gun, rinse it in running water and dry it at room temperature out of the reach of children.
- Keep the nebulizer in the package along with the drug. Adults and children over 3 years of age: frequency of use-2-3 times a day. If necessary, more frequent use of the drug is possible. The course of treatment is 5-7 days.
Overdose
Hexetidine in the indicated dosage is non-toxic. Ingestion of large amounts of the drug leads to vomiting, so significant absorption is not expected.
No cases of ethanol poisoning from overdose have been described. Acute alcohol poisoning is very unlikely, but theoretically possible if a large dose of the drug is swallowed by a small child. In any case of overdose, consult your doctor immediately.
Treatment is symptomatic: intake of enterosorbents (activated charcoal), gastric lavage, heavy drinking. Gastric lavage is required within 2 hours after ingestion of an excessive dose.
Special instructions
Children can use the drug from an age when they do not resist a foreign object (nebulizer) in their mouth when applying the spray and are able to hold their breath when injecting the drug.
The spray should not be inhaled; avoid contact with the eyes. After applying the spray, the applicator should be rinsed with warm water.
It should be borne in mind that the spray contains ethanol – 24-48 mg in a daily dose.
In the absence of a general reaction to taking the drug, performing potentially dangerous activities that require special attention and rapid reactions (including driving a car) is not contraindicated.
Attention! The cylinder is under pressure. Do not burn, pierce or open, even if the cylinder is empty.
Influence on the ability to drive vehicles and mechanisms
The drug does not have a negative effect on driving vehicles and performing potentially dangerous activities that require increased concentration of attention and speed of psychomotor reactions.
