Pharmacological action

Minisiston has an estrogen-progestogenic, contraceptive effect.

Levonorgestrel in combination with ethinyl estradiol blocks the release of releasing factors (luteinizing and follicle-stimulating) of the hypothalamus, inhibits the secretion of gonadotropic hormones by the pituitary gland, and thus inhibits ovulation; increases the viscosity of mucus in the cervix, which makes it difficult for sperm to enter the uterine cavity.

When taken regularly, it normalizes the menstrual cycle and helps prevent a number of gynecological diseases, including those of a tumor nature.

Indications

Contraception, functional disorders of the menstrual cycle, dysmenorrhea.

Use during pregnancy and lactation

Contraindicated in pregnancy.

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity,
• pregnancy,
• hormone-dependent tumors of the mammary glands or uterus,
• severe functional disorders and liver tumors,
• diabetes mellitus with vascular complications,
• thromboembolic diseases (including in the anamnesis),
• arterial and venous thrombosis,
• arterial hypertension (severe form).

Side effects

In rare cases, headache, depression, nausea, diarrhea, breast tenderness;

with prolonged use, very rarely — chloasma, deterioration of contact lens tolerance.

How to take, course of use and dosage

Minisiston is taken orally. For contraception — 1 tablet per day (the interval between the next doses should not exceed 36 hours) for 21 days, then — a 7-day break and a new cycle.

For functional disorders, the dose is selected by the doctor.

Special instructions

Use with caution in patients with varicose veins, phlebitis, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, endometriosis, and liver diseases.

Treatment should be discontinued and a doctor should be consulted if migraine-like headaches, acute visual disturbances, pregnancy, acute thrombosis, bile congestion or jaundice, or a significant increase in blood pressure occur for the first time.
