Pharmacological action

Pharmacodynamics

Mucaltin is a mixture of polysaccharides from the herb marshmallow officinalis, has expectorant properties. Due to reflex stimulation, it increases the activity of the ciliated epithelium and peristalsis of the respiratory bronchioles in combination with increased secretion of the bronchial glands.

Indications

Acute and chronic diseases of the respiratory tract, accompanied by cough with the formation of difficult-to-separate sputum of increased viscosity (tracheobronchitis, obstructive bronchitis, pneumonia, bronchiectasis) – as part of complex therapy.

Use during pregnancy and lactation

The use of the drug during pregnancy and lactation is possible on the recommendation of a doctor.

Contraindications

• hypersensitivity to the components of the drug;
• peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum;
• children (up to 12 years).

Allergic reactions.

From the gastrointestinal tract:

rarely-dyspeptic symptoms.

Interaction

Mukaltin can be administered simultaneously with other medications used in the treatment of bronchopulmonary diseases. Mucaltin should not be used concomitantly with drugs containing codeine and other antitussive medications, as this makes it difficult to cough up thin sputum.

How to take, course of use and dosage

Inside before eating. Adults and children from 12 years 1-2 tablets 2-3 times a day. Children can dissolve the tablet in 1/3 cup of warm water. The course of treatment is on average 7-14 days.

Overdose

To date, no overdose cases have been reported with the use of the drug.
