Pharmacological action
Myo-inositol (inositol, inositol, Vitamin B8) is a water-soluble vitamin-like compound of Group B.
The main function of myo-inositol and its derivatives is to participate in intracellular signal transmission and ensure the functioning of insulin receptors, reproductive hormones, catecholamines, growth factors, etc. Myo-inositol is essential for the functioning of human body systems and organs.
It is involved in supporting the vital functions of the cardiovascular system, central nervous system, immunity (reducing autoimmune inflammatory reactions), in the metabolism of sugars (primarily in the insulin signaling cascade), in the regulation of fat metabolism (by reducing insulin resistance and increasing the production of adiponectin in adipose tissue – a hormone with anti-inflammatory and anti-atherogenic effects).
Myo-inositol improves the transmission of nerve signals. It is effectively included in the complex therapy of diabetic neuropathy, as well as other diseases with impaired nervous sensitivity. Myo-inositol helps to improve concentration and memory ability.
The most studied is Myo-inositol as a dietary supplement that improves reproductive function. It is essential for sperm reproduction, and it also plays a central role in triggering egg division. Therefore, myo-inositol deficiency can lead to infertility in both sexes.
Insufficient supply of myo-inositol is associated with menstrual disorders, infertility, polycystic ovary disease and congenital malformations of the fetus. Myo-inositol subsidies improve the formation of ovulatory cycles, mature oocytes, increase the likelihood of pregnancy, reduce the risk of gestational diabetes, folate-resistant malformations and some other fetal malformations. Myo-inositol prevents excessive weight gain during pregnancy, counteracts the formation of glucose tolerance and insulin resistance in women with menstrual disorders, and has a beneficial effect on the blood lipid profile.
The effects of myo-inositol, which contribute to the normalization of pathophysiological mechanisms associated with reproductive disorders, make it possible to widely use it in obstetric and gynecological practice and in combination infertility therapy. The direct involvement of myo-inositol in restoring the regularity of the menstrual cycle and ovulation determines its successful use in patients with an anovulatory cycle.
Myo-inositol is used in the treatment of conditions caused by polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). The basis for the development of PCOS and, as a consequence, infertility is a violation of the sensitivity of the body’s tissues and ovaries to insulin, which myo-inositol can help normalize. Taking myo-inositol not only helps to restore the ovarian-menstrual cycle, it also helps to reduce the manifestations of hirsutism, improve hair conditions, normalize blood pressure, and reduce body weight. While taking myo-inositol, a woman’s self-esteem increases.
Due to the irregular menstrual cycle and anovulation, many women with PCOS cannot conceive on their own and make up the main group of women who resort to in vitro fertilization (IVF). Myo-inositol is used to increase the frequency of pregnancy in infertile women undergoing ovulation induction or embryo transplantation in vitro.
The results of the analysis of multicenter randomized trials allow us to recommend myo-inositol at a dose of 2-4 g / day to improve ovarian function, as well as metabolic and hormonal parameters in patients with PCOS.
Folic acid is a water-soluble B vitamin (vitamin B9) and belongs to folate: a group of related compounds that have folic acid activity. Folic acid has a much higher bioavailability than natural folates and is rapidly absorbed in the small intestine. Folic acid plays an important role in the metabolism of amino acids, protein and nucleic acid synthesis (primarily in the production of DNA and RNA) and chromosome repair, so it is very important for normal cell division and tissue growth.
Numerous studies have convincingly proved the exclusive role of folic acid in the functioning of the reproductive system. Most researchers have concluded that a lack of folic acid in the blood serum leads to impaired follicle development and immaturity of the egg, to a violation of the ovarian reserve and prevents the onset of pregnancy in patients.
Taking folic acid is extremely important, as it prevents the occurrence of congenital malformations, including defects in the formation of the neural tube (the future nervous system of the child). For the prevention of neural tube defects, other malformations and complicated pregnancy, all women preparing for conception should take folate at a dosage of 400-800 mcg/day for 3 months before conception and at least during the first trimester of pregnancy. Failure to prescribe folic acid prescribed by medical procedures and clinical guidelines is considered a defect in the provision of medical care.
Myo-inositol and folic acid are natural synergists. Myo-inositol, as well as folate, affects the processes of DNA methylation through inositol-dependent proteins. The combination of myo-inositol and folic acid has been proven effective in numerous studies and is used to normalize the menstrual cycle, restore ovulation, and eliminate skin problems (acne, seborrhea, and hirsutism). The combination of myo-inositol and folic acid showed a significant improvement in ovarian function in women with PCOS compared to folic acid alone.
Indications
As an additional source of myo-inositol and folic acid for patients of both sexes.
As an adjunct (dietary supplement) in the treatment of conditions caused by polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS):
· to restore ovarian function, menstrual cycle;
· to reduce the synthesis of testosterone in women and elimination of the clinical manifestations of androgen disorders (hirsutism, oily skin, acne, greasiness and hair loss);
· are desirable for the onset of pregnancy;
· to improve the quality of Mature oocytes in preparation for in vitro fertilization;
· in combination therapy of conditions caused by insulin resistance, including androgenic obesity (together with the correction of nutrition and physical activity).
For the prevention of neural tube defects, other fetal malformations and complicated pregnancy within 3 months before pregnancy and the first trimester of pregnancy.
Recommendations for use
As an additional source of myo-inositol and folic acid, it is recommended to take 1 stick bag per day at any time of the day during or after meals. Duration of admission: 30 days.
On the recommendation of the doctor, the frequency and duration of admission can be changed. In the treatment of conditions accompanied by an increased need for myo-inositol and folic acid, the daily dose usually does not exceed 2-4 g of myo-inositol and 400-800 mcg of folic acid, which corresponds to the contents of 2-4 sachets-sticks.
The duration of admission is 3-6 months.
