Active ingredients
White
mulberry The white mulberry (Latin Morus alba) or mulberry tree originates from the eastern regions of China, where it has been cultivated for about four thousand years. In height, the mulberry tree reaches 15-18 m.
Different parts of mulberry contain many biologically active substances that have a wide range of applications.
In particular, mulberry contains:
- Alkaloids (1-deoxynoirimycin)
- Halcone
- Flavonoids (moruzin, kuvanon)
- Stilbenoids (moracin B, halcomoracin, mulberrofurans)
Numerous studies have shown a pronounced direct antibacterial activity of both the total mulberry extract and its individual components. For example, White Mulberry extract has been shown to inhibit the growth of Gram-negative bacteria. In particular, the antibacterial spectrum of the total alcohol extract includes E. coli, which is the most common causative agent of chronic pyelonephritis. Individual active substances from mulberry extract, in particular Albanol B and Mulberrofuran G, have shown their activity not only against Escherichia coli, but also against other pathogenic microorganisms, such as Salmonella, epidermal and Staphylococcus aureus.
Mulberry extract also has an anti-inflammatory effect by reducing the production of pro-inflammatory molecules.
The flavonoid fraction of mulberry extract containing cyclocommunol, morusin and cuvanone E demonstrated high antibacterial activity against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). When used together with antibiotics, in particular with vancomycin, ciprofloxacin, the combination of active components of white Mulberry extract increased the activity of antibacterial agents and prevented the development of resistance.
White mulberry extract has a pronounced multi-faceted positive effect on the state of anti-infectious immunity. It consists in increasing the production of anti-inflammatory cytokines (IFN-γ, IL-12, and TNF-α), increasing the activity of macrophages and intracellular dissolution of bacteria.
In addition to fighting bacteria directly, one of the components of mulberry,1-deoxynoirimycin (1-DAYS), reduces the formation of bacterial biofilms and destroys their structure.
Momordica harantia
Momordica charantia (Latin: Momordica charantia) or bitter cucumber or Chinese bitter gourd is an annual herbaceous liana native to the tropics of Southeast Asia, China, and the Caribbean Islands.
Momordica harantia contains a large number of active substances, including alkaloids (momordicin, charin, harantin, momorhanin), triterpenes, peptides, steroids, and phenolic components.
It has dose-dependent activity against a wide range of bacteria and fungi. The anti-infective effect occurs due to the violation of the integrity of the cell nucleus and DNA of bacteria and fungi.
The active ingredient of Momordica charantia extract is Alpha-momorcharin (alpha-MMC), which inhibits protein synthesis in bacteria and slows down the growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa colonies
Momorharazide isolated from M. Charantia has a synergistic (enhancing) effect with antibiotics against resistant microorganisms by blocking penicillin-binding proteins.
Momordica charantia extract also has a versatile anti-inflammatory effect.
Baikal skullcap Baikal skullcap (Latin: Scutellaria baicalensis) is a plant of the yasnotkov family, native to the Baikal region, Mongolia, Korea, northern China, the Amur Region, and Primorsky Krai.
Various parts of the plant contain unique substances that have a wide range of pharmacological activity: baikalin, baikalein, vogonoside, vogonin, oroxyloside, etc
. Skullcap Baikal significantly slows down the formation of biofilms Klebsiella pneumonia. It has a synergistic effect with broad-spectrum penicillins, fluoroquinolones, and cephalosporins.
Baikalin-the main Active ingredient of Baikal Skullcap extract has a depressing effect on Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilms. Moreover, model studies have shown that the combination of baikalin and antibiotics (levofloxacin, tobramycin, ceftazidime) significantly reduces the number of colony-forming units in the biofilm to a much greater extent than treatment with one antibiotic.
Studies have also shown that baikalin can cause autophagy-self-absorption in infected cells of the immune system, which prevents the formation of pathological chronic inflammation and damage to surrounding tissues.
Baikalin from Skullcap extract restores the sensitivity of bacteria to antibiotics by slowing down the active removal of the antibiotic from the cell.
The use of baikalin leads to a significant increase in the permeability of the E. coli membrane and a decrease in the number of resistant strains.
This is due to a decrease in the expression of drug resistance genes, inhibition of R plasmids, and a decrease in the activity of beta-lactamases.
