Pharmacological action

Pharmacological ACTIONNUX vomica is made from dried emetic nut seeds, a tree with non-falling foliage native to Southeast Asia.
Chemical composition:
* fatty acids;• polysaccharides• * iridoids, including loganoside;• alkaloids (3%), mainly strychnine (45% alkaloids) and brucine are the main active substances; there are also traces of small alkaloids-colubrin, vomicin, novacin.
Strychnine and brucine are specific antagonists of glycine, the postsynaptic action of which they block.
Indications
The key symptoms for prescribing the drug
- are hypersensitivity to light, noise, odors, and the slightest touch;
- hypersensitivity to cold (feeling cold, chills in cool air);
- cramps of the calf muscles and toes;
- colic with nausea attacks that do not lead to vomiting;
- a tendency to spastic processes;
- constipation;
- bleeding hemorrhoids;
- bloating.
Main cases of clinical use
Conduct disorder
- irritability, quick temper, aggressiveness, behavior associated with different types of dependence;
- cramps, hypersensitivity to noise, smells, touches, common reflex hyperexcitability;
- nausea;
- insomnia (hard to fall asleep, then waking up around 3 a. m., in a situation of fatigue; mindset is so rapid that the patient with difficulty falling asleep and waking up tired).
Gastroenterology
- dyspepsia:
- with overlaid tongue, covered with a yellowish-white coating in the back;

Otorhinolaryngology
- acute rhinitis that occurs after exposure to cold (cold), with repeated sneezing during a revival, with watery rhinorrhea, accompanied by itching in the nose or nasal congestion and dryness of mucous membranes; the improvement in rhinorrhea occurs in the open air;
- allergic rhinitis, periodic or not periodic, with sneezing “volleys” upon awakening, when getting out of bed or during the day.
Infectology
- febrile states with trembling, resembling a pseudomalarial attack (the patient shivers at the slightest movement or as soon as he opens up, he cannot warm up); severe thirst at the time of temperature jumps.
The combination of characteristic acute rhinitis and aching pains (nighttime low back pain, in which the patient has to sit up in bed to roll over) makes Nux vomica an effective medicine for the treatment of influenza syndrome.
Cardiology
- spasmodic arterial hypertension; Nux vomica is also prescribed in cases where blood pressure remains unstable, despite treatment with antihypertensive agents.
Other indications
- pathology caused by intoxication (alcohol, coffee, tobacco, stimulants, drugs);
- headaches, migraine patients showing the properties of a sensitive type;
- bronchospasm with night attacks about 3 hours of night;
- lumbago with night fever, in which the patient is difficult to turn over in bed;
- urinary retention and postoperative cystitis with impulses that do not lead to urinate.
Contraindications
- Individual sensitivity to the drug;
- lactose intolerance.

Interaction
Other medications may be used in the treatment with Nux vomica.
How to take, course of use and dosage
Sublingual.
Granules should be absorbed in the mouth 30 minutes before meals or 60 minutes after meals.
For children from 0 to 3 years of age, the pellets are pre-diluted, shaking, in 10-15 ml of water at room temperature and given to drink.
The optimal amount per dose is 5 pellets.

Overdose
So far, no overdose cases have been reported.
