Polyene antifungal antibiotic is highly active against yeast-like fungi of the genus Candida. The structure of the antibiotic contains double bonds that have a high tropicity to the sterol structures of the fungal cell membrane, which contributes to the incorporation of the drug molecule into the cell membrane and the formation of a large number of channels through which uncontrolled electrolyte transport is carried out; an increase in osmolarity inside the cell leads to its death. Resistance develops very slowly.
When applied topically, it is practically not absorbed through the mucous membranes.
Treatment and prevention (with long-term local antimicrobial therapy) of candidiasis of the vaginal mucosa.
The drug is contraindicated during pregnancy. Use during breastfeeding is possible since the drug is practically not absorbed through the mucous membranes, so it does not penetrate into breast milk.
Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug pregnancy children under 18 years of age (there are no data on the effectiveness and safety of using nystatin in the dosage form for intravaginal use in children).
Local hypersensitivity reactions are possible.
There may be a risk of spreading resistant forms of fungi, which requires discontinuation of the drug.
When nystatin is co-administered with clotrimazole, the activity of the latter decreases.

During menstruation, treatment should not be interrupted.
For fungal diseases of the vagina, simultaneous treatment of the sexual partner is recommended. During the treatment period, it is recommended to avoid sexual contact.
