Composition

1 tablet contains 40 mg of papaverine hydrochloride.

Pharmacological action

Papaverine is a myotropic antispasmodic agent.

It has a hypotensive effect.

Inhibits phosphodiesterase, causes accumulation of cyclic 3`,5` – AMP in the cell and a decrease in calcium content; reduces tone and relaxes smooth muscles of internal organs (gastrointestinal tract, respiratory and genitourinary system) and blood vessels.

Causes dilation of the arteries, promotes an increase in blood flow, including cerebral.

In large doses, it reduces the excitability of the heart muscle and slows down intracardiac conduction.

The effect on the central nervous system is weak, but in large doses it has a sedative effect.

Indications

• Spasm of smooth muscles of the abdominal cavity (cholecystitis, pylorospasm, spastic colitis, renal colic);
• spasm of cerebral vessels;
• spasm of peripheral vessels (endarteritis);
• angina pectoris (as part of complex therapy);
• bronchospasm.

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity,
• glaucoma,
• AV block,
• impaired liver function,
• elderly (risk of hyperthermia),
• children (up to 10 years).

Side effects

• Allergic reactions;
• AV block,
• ventricular extrasystole,
• decreased blood pressure,
• drowsiness,
• constipation,
• increased activity of hepatic transaminases,
• eosinophilia.

Interaction

Reduces the effect of dopegit.

When smoking, the effectiveness decreases.

How to take, course of use and dosage

Inside. Adults: 40-60 mg 3-4 times a day. The highest single dose is 200 mg, the daily dose is 600 mg. Children over 10 years of age: 20 mg 3-4 times a day. Children under 10 years of age are recommended to take children’s forms of the drug.

Special instructions

Use with caution and in small doses in elderly and debilitated patients, as well as in patients with traumatic brain injury, impaired liver and kidney function, hypothyroidism, adrenal insufficiency, prostatic hypertrophy, supraventricular tachycardia and shock.

IV should be administered slowly and under medical supervision.

During the treatment period, alcohol consumption should be excluded.

Storage conditions

Store in a dry place, protected from light, at a temperature not exceeding 25 °C.
