Composition
Active ingredient:
20 mg papaverine hydrochloride
Pharmacological action
Papaverine is a myotropic antispasmodic (relieving smooth muscle spasms) drug.
It lowers the tone and reduces the contractile activity of smooth muscles and has a vasodilating and antispasmodic (relieving spasms) effect in this regard.
In large doses, it reduces the excitability of the heart muscle, slows down intracardiac conduction.
Indications
- spasms (sharp narrowing of the lumen) of the brain vessels,
- angina pectoris,
- endarteritis (inflammation of the inner lining of the arteries),
- cholecystitis (inflammation of the gallbladder),
- pylorospasm (spasm of the muscles of the pylorus of the stomach),
- spastic colitis,
- spasm of the urinary tract,
- bronchospasm (narrowing of the lumen of the bronchi).
Contraindications
- AV block,
- glaucoma,
- severe liver failure,
- elderly age (risk of hyperthermia),
- hypersensitivity to papaverine.
Side effects
Possible: Â
- nausea,
- constipation,
- drowsiness,
- excessive sweating,
- hypotension,
- increased activity of hepatic transaminases.
With rapid intravenous use, as well as when used in high doses: Â development of AV block, cardiac arrhythmias.
Interaction
Reduces the effect of dopegit.
When smoking, the effectiveness decreases.
How to take, course of use and dosage
Subcutaneously, intramuscularly-1-2 ml of a 2% solution (20-40 mg) 2-4 times a day; intravenously, slowly 20 mg with a preliminary dilution in 10-20 ml of 0.9% sodium chloride solution.
For elderly patients, the initial single dose is no more than 10 mg.
Special instructions
Use with caution and in small doses in elderly and debilitated patients, as well as in patients with traumatic brain injury, impaired liver and kidney function, hypothyroidism, adrenal insufficiency, prostatic hypertrophy, supraventricular tachycardia and shock.
IV should be administered slowly and under medical supervision.
During the treatment period, alcohol consumption should be excluded.
