Composition

1 suppository contains:

Active ingredient:

mesalazine 1000 mg;

Auxiliary substances:

povidone;

macrogol 6000;

magnesium stearate;

talc.

Pharmacological action

Pentasa is an anti-inflammatory.

Pentasa reduces the formation of leukotrienes and cytokinins, neutralizes free radicals, and inhibits leukocyte chemotaxis.

Indications

Non-specific ulcerative colitis; Crohn’s disease.

Use during pregnancy and lactation

During pregnancy and lactation, it is prescribed only in cases where the positive effect exceeds the risk of possible side effects.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity (including to salicylates, etc. components of the drug); severe violations of liver and kidney function.

Side effects

Abdominal discomfort, nausea, vomiting, headache, diarrhea, skin rash in the form of urticaria or eczema;

very rarely-muscle and joint pain, temporary hair loss, liver and kidney function disorders, pericarditis, myocarditis, pancreatitis, changes in blood formula (leukopenia, granulocytopenia, thrombocytopenia, anemia).

How to take, course of use and dosage

Rectally, adults — 1 suppository 1-2 times a day in the rectum until the resistance of the muscle pulp stops (before use, the intestines are emptied, the suppository is moistened with water to facilitate use, and a rubber fingertip is used to ensure hygiene).

If the suppository is removed within 10 minutes, another suppository should be inserted.

Special instructions

In some cases of an allergic reaction to sulfasalazine, intolerance to Pentasa may also develop (risk of allergy to salicylates).
