Phytolacca decandra (American Phytolacca) is a tall herbaceous plant that has the appearance of a small tree native to North America.
Chemical composition:
– saponins, including phytolaccoside A and b, with an anti-rheumatic and anti-inflammatory properties;- lignans: polygyny including americanin A and b;- lectin with mitogenic effects on lymphocytes; some of these proteins have antiviral properties (inactivate subunit of ribosomes and disrupt the viral replication) against the herpes viruses, influenza, polio, HIV-1; gamma-aminobutyric acid.
