Phytolacca decandra (American Phytolacca) is a tall herbaceous plant with the appearance of a small tree native to North America.
Chemical composition:
* saponins, including phytolacosides A and B, with anti-rheumatic and anti-inflammatory properties;• lignans: non-lignans, including americanin A and B; * lectins with mitogenic effects on lymphocytes; some of these proteins have antiviral properties (inactivate ribosomal subunits and disrupt viral replication) against herpes, influenza, polio, HIV-1 viruses• * gamma-aminobutyric acid.
