Pharmacological action

Picamilon is a nootropic agent that dilates the blood vessels of the brain. It also has a tranquilizing, psychostimulating, antiplatelet and antioxidant effect.

Picamilon improves the functional state of the brain by normalizing tissue metabolism and influencing cerebral blood circulation (increases the volume and linear velocity of cerebral blood flow, reduces the resistance of brain vessels, suppresses platelet aggregation, improves microcirculation).

During the course, Picamilon increases physical and mental performance, reduces headaches, improves memory, normalizes sleep; helps to reduce or disappear feelings of anxiety, tension, fear; improves the condition of patients with motor and speech disorders.

Indications

• : Cerebrovascular insufficiency, asthenia, depressive disorders in the elderly.
• Conditions that are accompanied by anxiety, fear, increased irritability, and emotional lability. Asthenic conditions caused by various neuropsychiatric diseases.
• As part of a complex treatment – to stop acute alcohol intoxication; in chronic alcoholism – to reduce asthenic, asthenoneurotic, post-psychotic, pre-relapse conditions, as well as alcoholic encephalopathy.
• As part of complex therapy-migraine (prevention), TBI, neuroinfection.
• Improving the tolerance of physical and mental loads (for people who are in stressful and extreme conditions of activity; to restore the physical performance of athletes, to increase resistance to physical and mental loads).
• Open-angle glaucoma (to stabilize visual function).
• In urological practice (in children over 3 years of age and in adults with urinary disorders) to improve the adaptive function of the bladder (reduction of detrusor hypoxia).

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity, CRF, pregnancy, childhood (up to 3 years), lactation period.

Side effects

Nausea, headache, dizziness, irritability, agitation, anxiety, allergic reactions (rash, itching).

Interaction

Shortens the effect of barbiturates, enhances the effect of narcotic analgesics.

How to take, course of use and dosage

Intravenous drip or jet (slow), intramuscularly.

Before drip use, the contents of the ampoule are dissolved in 200 ml of 0.9% NaCl solution. For chronic disorders of cerebral circulation – iv or iv,100-200 mg,1-2 times a day, in a daily dose of 20-40 mg. Depending on the patient’s condition, it is prescribed in the morning intravenously, in the evening intravenously; or 10 days intravenously, then intravenously.

The course of treatment is 15-30 days. In asthenic conditions, depending on the severity of the disease, except for oral use-in / m, in a daily dose of 20-40 mg (2-4 ml of a 10% solution), for 1 month.

Overdose

Symptoms:  increased severity of adverse reactions.

Treatment:  symptomatic.
