Pharmacological action
Antifungal polyene (tetraene) antibiotic from the macrolide group. It has a predominantly fungicidal effect. Natamycin irreversibly binds to ergosterol of the fungal cell membrane, which leads to a violation of its integrity, loss of cytoplasmic contents and cell death.
Pharmacodynamics
Most pathogenic yeast and mold fungi, including the genera Candida, Aspergillus, Cephalosporium, Fusarium, and Penicillium, are susceptible to natamycin. Dermatophytes and Pseudoallescheria boydii are less sensitive to natamycin. No cases of natamycin resistance have been reported in clinical practice. Natamycin in the dosage form of enteric-coated tablets acts only in the intestinal lumen.
Pharmacokinetics
When taken orally, natamycin is practically not absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and does not have a systemic effect.
Indications
- Intestinal candidiasis;
- acute pseudomembranous and acute atrophic candidiasis in patients with cachexia, immune insufficiency, as well as after therapy with antibiotics, corticosteroids, cytostatics;
- rehabilitation of the intestinal reservoir of fungi of the genus Candida in candidiasis of the skin and mucous membranes, including candida vaginitis, vulvitis and vulvovaginitis.
