Clinical and pharmacological group
A drug with an antifungal effect for topical use in gynecology.
Pharmacological action
Polyene antifungal antibiotic from the macrolide group, which has a wide spectrum of action. It has a fungicidal effect. Natamycin binds sterols of the fungal cell membrane, disrupting its integrity and function, which leads to cell death.
Pharmacodynamics
Most pathogenic yeast fungi, especially Candida albicans, are susceptible to natamycin. Dermatophytes are less sensitive to natamycin. Natamycin resistance has not been reported in clinical practice.
Pharmacokinetics
When applied to the skin and mucous membranes, it is practically not subject to systemic absorption, so it does not have a systemic effect.
It is possible to use Pimafucin during pregnancy and lactation.
There are no data on adverse effects on the fetus.
