Pharmacological action

Pyrazidol – thymoleptic, antidepressant.

Selectively inhibits MAO type A, blocks the deamination of serotonin and norepinephrine, to a lesser extent-tyramine. Partially inhibits the reuptake of monoamines, potentiates the effects of the norepinephrine precursor-dioxyphenylalanine (L-dopa) and the serotonin precursor-5-oxy-tryptophan. It stimulates the adreno-and serotonergic structures. Activates the processes of synaptic transmission of nervous excitation in the central nervous system. It has a nootropic effect, improves cognitive functions.

Pharmacodynamics

The thymoleptic effect is combined with a balanced effect on the central nervous system (activating effect in patients with apathetic, anergic depression or sedative effect in patients in an agitated state).

Indications

Depression, including senile, involutional, occurring mainly with psychomotor retardation and asthenic disorders, anxiety-depressive or anxiety-delusional components, alcohol withdrawal syndrome, Alzheimer’s disease (as part of complex therapy).

Use during pregnancy and lactation

Adequate and strictly controlled studies on the safety and efficacy of the drug during pregnancy and lactation have not been conducted.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity, acute hepatitis, blood diseases, concomitant use of MAO inhibitors.

Side effects

Dry mouth, nausea, sweating, hand tremor, tachycardia, dizziness, allergic reactions.

Interaction

Increases the effectiveness of epinephrine (due to its antimonoamine oxidase activity).

Compatible with antipsychotic drugs, anxiolytics.

Incompatible with antidepressants-MAO inhibitors, furazolidone, procarbazine, selegiline.

How to take, course of use and dosage

Inside,0.05-0.075 g / day in 2 divided doses, gradually increasing the dose by 0.025-0.05 g to 0.15-0.30 g/day.

The maximum daily dose is 0.4 g, divided into 2-3 doses.

After the therapeutic effect is achieved, treatment is continued for 2-4 weeks, after which the dose is gradually reduced.

Special instructions

Pyrazidol is not prescribed simultaneously with antidepressants-MAO inhibitors, furazolidone, procarbazine, selegiline.

Pyrazidol may be used in patients with glaucoma and benign prostatic hyperplasia.

Pyrazidol is compatible with antipsychotic drugs, anxiolytics.
