Active ingredients:

neomycin sulfate 1 g, which corresponds to 650,000 IU;

polymyxin B sulfate 1,000,000 IU;

dexamethasone sodium metasulfobenzoate 0.025 g;

phenylephrine hydrochloride 0.250 g;

Auxiliary substances:

methylparaben,

lithium chloride,

citric acid,

lithium hydroxide,

macrogol 400,

polysorbate 80,

purified water q. s. up to 100 ml

Pharmacological action

Combined drug for topical use in otorhinolaryngology.

Therapeutic effect of the drug Polydexa with phenylephrine is caused by the anti-inflammatory effect of dexamethasone on the nasal mucosa, the vasoconstrictive effect of phenylephrine, and the antibacterial effect of the antibiotics neomycin and polymyxin B.

The combination of these antibiotics expands the spectrum of antibacterial action on most gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms that cause infectious and inflammatory diseases of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses.

Indications

Infectious and inflammatory diseases of the nasal cavity, pharynx, paranasal sinuses:  

• acute and chronic rhinopharyngitis;
• acute and chronic rhinitis;
• sinusitis.

Use during pregnancy and lactation

Polydexa with phenylephrine is contraindicated in pregnancy, lactation, and children under 2 years of age

Contraindications

• simultaneous use of monoamine oxidase inhibitors;
• suspicion of angle-closure glaucoma;
• viral diseases;
• kidney diseases accompanied by albuminuria;
• pregnancy;
• breast-feeding;
• children (up to 2.5 years);
• hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.

Side effects

Allergic reactions:  rarely-skin manifestations.

Interaction

Drug interaction is caused by the content of phenylephrine.

Simultaneous use of guanethidine and drugs of this group increases the hypertensive effect of phenylephrine and, due to a decrease in the sympathetic tone of guanethidine, prolonged mydriasis is possible.

If such a combination cannot be avoided, then medical supervision is necessary.

How to take, course of use and dosage

For adults:  one injection in each nostril 3-5 times a day.

Children aged 2.5 to 15 years:  one injection in each nostril 3 times a day.

The duration of treatment is 5-10 days.

Overdose

Due to the low degree of absorption into the systemic circulation, overdose is unlikely.

Special instructions

The drug is not prescribed for patients with renal insufficiency.

Do not use for washing the paranasal sinuses.

The drug is used with caution in patients with arterial hypertension, CHD, hyperthyroidism.

It should be borne in mind that the drug contains components that can give a positive result during doping control in athletes.
