Pharmacological action
Protecta is a stimulator of cartilage tissue regeneration. The pharmacological action of the drug is determined by the properties of its constituent components.
Glucosamine sulfate is a salt of the natural aminomonosaccharide glucosamine, which is physiologically present in the human body. Activates the synthesis of proteoglycans, glycosaminoglycans, hyaluronic and chondroitinseric acids and other substances that make up the joint membranes, intra-articular fluid and cartilage tissue; stimulates the synthesis of collagen. It has a positive effect on the metabolism of cartilage-it enhances anabolic and weakens catabolic processes, increases the permeability of the joint capsule, and restores enzymatic processes in the cells of the synovial membrane and articular cartilage.
It has chondroprotective and osteotropic effects, normalizes the deposition of calcium in bone tissue. It has a moderate anti-inflammatory effect, which is not associated with the suppression of prostaglandin synthesis, but is realized due to antioxidant activity (by blocking the formation of superoxide radicals) and suppressing the activity of lysosomal enzymes. Prevents possible metabolic damage to the cartilage caused by nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and glucocorticosteroids (corticosteroids).
Chondroitin sulfate is a high-molecular mucopolysaccharide involved in the construction of cartilage tissue (it serves as an additional substrate for the formation of the cartilage matrix). It has a chondroprotective effect, stimulates the regeneration of cartilage tissue, has an anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect. Normalizes metabolism in hyaline tissue, stimulates the formation of hyaluron, synthesis of proteoglycans and type II collagen; protects hyaluron from enzymatic cleavage, including lysosomal enzymes, which leads to the destruction of connective tissue. It affects phosphorus-calcium metabolism in cartilage tissue, slows down bone resorption and reduces calcium loss, slows down the processes of cartilage tissue degeneration. Prevents compression of connective tissue and plays the role of a lubricant for joint surfaces, normalizes the formation of joint fluid.
Glucosamine sulfate and chondroitin sulfate are involved in the biosynthesis of connective tissue, preventing the destruction of cartilage and stimulating the regeneration of cartilage tissue, which helps to reduce the severity of pain and improve the functional ability of joints.
Methylsulfonylmethane is a natural organic compound of sulfur that exhibits high biological activity. Sulfur promotes the absorption of minerals by the liver, is important for the brain, the formation of hair, nails, connective tissue, cartilage, and has a pronounced anti-allergic effect. Methylsulfonylmethane promotes the elimination of lactate from tissues, toxins, which increases the permeability of nutrients; helps the body restore damaged skin and connective tissue cells, increases their elasticity. Manganese is involved in energy production, protein and fat metabolism, and bone and connective tissue synthesis.
Calcium forms the basis of bone tissue, activates the activity of a number of important enzymes, participates in maintaining ion balance in the body, and affects the processes occurring in the neuromuscular and cardiovascular systems.
Vitamin D3 increases the absorption of calcium in the small intestine, stimulating the synthesis of calcium-binding proteins, increases the reabsorption of calcium in the renal tubules. Vitamin D3 activates the processes of bone remodeling by increasing the synthesis of type I collagen and matrix proteins, by activating the synthesis of osteoblasts. It affects the functional state of the thyroid, parathyroid, and genital glands, providing calcification of skeletal bones.
