Composition

Active ingredient:  

matrix tincture of Mahonia aquifolium (Berberis aquifolium) 10 g;

Auxiliary substances:  

lanolin;

lanolin-alcohol ointment;

liquid paraffin;

purified water.

Pharmacological action

Psoriaten is a homeopathic medicine used for psoriasis. Mahonia aquifolium (Magonia podubolistnaya) contains active ingredients, alkaloids, the main of which is berberine.

The drug has an anti-inflammatory effect (by reducing the activity of cyclooxygenase and 5-lipoxygenase enzymes, disrupting the synthesis of arachidonic acid, leukotrienes, prostaglandins, thromboxane, and free radical binding) and an antiproliferative effect (by inhibiting the synthesis of proteins, RNA, and DNA, as well as indirectly affecting the biochemical processes necessary for cell reproduction and the synthesis of inflammatory mediators).

In addition, berberine is an antagonist of calmodulin, which is involved in the regulation of calcium metabolism in cells and plays an essential role in the processes of cell growth and reproduction.

Indications

Treatment of psoriasis and other skin diseases accompanied by dryness and peeling of the skin (as part of complex therapy).

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, for example, lanolin-based alcohol.

Side effects

Rarely-hypersensitivity reactions from the skin to the components of the ointment base are possible.

How to take, course of use and dosage

Topically, adults and children older than 1 year — apply a thin layer to the affected areas of the skin, lightly rubbing,3 times a day.
