Composition
Active ingredient: Sulfonamide (streptocide) – 5 g
Pharmacological action
Sulfonamide is an antimicrobial bacteriostatic agent. The mechanism of action is associated with competitive antagonism with paraaminobenzoic acid (PABA) and inhibition of dihydropteroate synthetase, which leads to disruption of the synthesis of dihydrofolic acid, and then tetrahydrofolic acid, as a result of which the synthesis of nucleic acids of microorganisms is disrupted. Active against gram-positive and Gram-negative microorganisms: Escherichia coli, Shigella spp., Vibrio cholerae, Clostridium spp., Bacillus anthracis, Corynebacterium diphtheriae, Yersinia pestis, Chlamydia spp., Actinomyces spp., Toxoplasma gondii.
Indications
As part of complex therapy: purulent wounds, infected burns (I-II stages) and other purulent-inflammatory processes of soft tissues.
Use during pregnancy and lactation
It is contraindicated for use during pregnancy and lactation.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to sulfonamides, diseases of the hematopoietic system, inhibition of bone marrow hematopoiesis, anemia, chronic heart failure, thyrotoxicosis, renal / hepatic insufficiency, azotemia, porphyria, congenital glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, pregnancy, breastfeeding.
Use caution
for children under 3 years of age.
Side effects
With hypersensitivity to sulfonamide agents, allergic reactions are possible, the development of which requires immediate discontinuation of the drug. In addition, headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, dyspepsia, cyanosis, leukopenia, agranulocytosis, crystalluria are possible. If any of the side effects listed in the instructions get worse, or you notice any other side effects not listed in the instructions, tell your doctor.
Interaction
Myelotoxic drugs increase the manifestations of hematotoxicity of the drug.
How to take, course of use and dosage
Externally, in the form of powder for external use, it is applied directly to the affected surface; dressings are carried out after 1-2 days. Maximum doses for adults: single dose – 5 g, daily dose – 15 g. For children over 3 years of age: single dose-300 mg, daily dose-300 mg. For deep wounds,5-10-15 g of powder is applied to the wound cavity for external use. If there is no improvement after treatment or new symptoms appear, you should consult your doctor.
Overdose
Symptoms: nausea, vomiting, intestinal colic, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, depression, fainting, confusion, visual disturbances, fever, hematuria, crystalluria; with prolonged overdose – thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, megaloblastic anemia, jaundice. Treatment: heavy drinking; in case of accidental ingestion-gastric lavage.
Special instructions
During therapy, a plentiful alkaline drink is recommended. If necessary, simultaneously prescribe antimicrobial drugs inside. If hypersensitivity reactions occur, treatment should be discontinued. With long-term treatment, systematic monitoring of the blood picture, kidney and liver function is recommended.
