Pharmacological action

Thermopsis herb has an expectorant effect, exerting a moderate irritating effect on the receptors of the gastric mucosa, reflexively increases the secretion of bronchial glands. The alkaloids contained in the herb thermopsis (cytisine, methylcytisine, pachycarpine, anagirine, thermopsin and thermopsidine) have an exciting effect on the respiratory and, in high doses, emetic centers.

Sodium bicarbonate stimulates the secretion of bronchial glands, helps reduce the viscosity of sputum.

Pharmacokinetic components of the drug are well absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract. The maximum effect occurs 30-60 minutes after ingestion and lasts for 2-6 hours. They are excreted from the body by the kidneys, the mucous membrane of the respiratory tract and the bronchial glands.

Indications

Diseases of the respiratory tract, accompanied by a cough with difficult-to-separate sputum (tracheitis, bronchitis) – as part of complex therapy.

Use during pregnancy and lactation

Taking the drug is contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug; peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum in the acute phase; children under 12 years of age; pregnancy and lactation. Do not prescribe the drug for lung diseases with a tendency to hemoptysis (cancer and tuberculosis of the lungs in the presence of bleeding).

Side effects

Possible allergic reactions, nausea.

Interaction

Adsorbents, astringents and enveloping drugs can reduce the absorption of alkaloids that make up the thermopsis herb in the gastrointestinal tract. It should not be used simultaneously with drugs containing codeine and other antitussive drugs, as this makes it difficult to separate the diluted sputum.

How to take, course of use and dosage

Inside. Adults – 1 tablet 3 times a day, children over 12 years-1 tablet 2-3 times a day. The course of treatment is 3-5 days. The need for a second course of treatment is determined by the doctor. The maximum single dose for adults (in terms of thermopsis) is 0.1 g (14 tablets), the maximum daily dose is 0.3 g (42 tablets).

Overdose

Symptoms: nausea, vomiting. Treatment: gastric lavage, symptomatic therapy.

Special instructions

To improve the dilution and separation of sputum during treatment, it is recommended to drink plenty of warm water. Influence on the ability to drive vehicles, mechanisms of use of the drug does not affect the ability to drive vehicles and engage in other potentially dangerous activities that require increased concentration of attention and speed of psychomotor reactions.
