Pharmacological action
Pharmaceutical group:
antacid agent.
Pharmaceutical action:
Rennie is a topical antacid.
It contains calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate, which provide fast and long-lasting neutralization of excess hydrochloric acid in gastric juice, thereby exerting a protective effect on the gastric mucosa.
The achievement of the therapeutic effect within 3-5 minutes is due to the good solubility of the tablets and the high calcium content.
Indications
Symptoms associated with increased acidity of gastric juice and reflux esophagitis (including those caused by errors in diet, medication, alcohol abuse, coffee, nicotine): heartburn; acid belching; periodic pain in the stomach; feeling full or heavy in the epigastric region; dyspepsia; dyspepsia of pregnant women.
Contraindications
hypersensitivity to the components of the drug; severe renal failure; hypercalcemia; hypophosphatemia; nephrocalcinosis; children under 12 years of age.
Side effects
If the recommended doses are observed, the drug is well tolerated, however, in very rare cases, allergic reactions are possible — rash, angioedema, anaphylactic reactions.
Interaction
Changes in the acidity of gastric juice during the use of antacids can lead to a decrease in the rate and degree of absorption of other drugs when taken simultaneously, so medications should be taken 1-2 hours before or after taking antacids.
Tetracycline antibiotics, fluoroquinolones, cardiac glycosides, levothyroxine, iron preparations, fluorides, phosphates-when used simultaneously, antacids reduce the absorption of these drugs.
Thiazide diuretics — when taken concomitantly with antacids, the concentration of calcium in the blood serum should be regularly monitored. Anticholinergic drugs enhance and prolong the action, slowing down the emptying of the stomach.
How to take, course of use and dosage
Inside, chew or hold in the mouth until completely absorbed.
Adults and children over 12 years of age (unless otherwise recommended by the doctor) if symptoms occur — 1-2 tablets.
If necessary, you can repeat the drug after 2 hours.
The maximum daily dose is 11 tablets.
Overdose
Symptoms: long-term use of the drug in high doses in patients with impaired renal function can cause hypermagnesemia, hypercalcemia, alkalosis, which are manifested by nausea, vomiting, muscle weakness.
Treatment: Discontinue the medication and consult a doctor immediately.
Special instructions
When prescribing the drug to patients with impaired renal function, the concentration of magnesium, phosphorus and calcium in the blood serum should be regularly monitored.
Patients with impaired renal function are not recommended to take the drug for a long time in high doses.
High-dose use of Rennie® may increase the risk of kidney stones.
If the use of the drug is ineffective, you should consult a doctor for advice.
