An accidental overdose of eucalyptus oil may cause stomach symptoms (such as nausea, vomiting) and shortness of breath. In severe cases, overdose can lead to convulsions, coma, or respiratory failure. In rare cases, after severe intoxication, disorders of the cardiovascular system may occur. Treatment: The need for therapeutic intervention depends on the amount of eucalyptus oil taken orally and the severity of clinical symptoms. If the amount taken orally is small and the patient shows no symptoms or suffers only mild symptoms, such as vomiting or slight drowsiness, it is usually sufficient to observe the patient for several hours.
After ingestion of large amounts of eucalyptus oil or in the case of severe clinical symptoms, gastric lavage after endotracheal intubation and instillation of activated carbon are recommended.
