Pharmacological action

Rutacid has an antacid effect.

Pharmacodynamics

Hydrothalcite has a layered-mesh structure with a low content of aluminum and magnesium. The release of aluminum and magnesium ions occurs gradually, depending on the pH of gastric juice.

The drug provides rapid and long-lasting neutralization of hydrochloric acid while maintaining a pH close to normal levels. It has a protective effect on the gastric mucosa. Reduces the proteolytic activity of pepsin, binds bile acids.

Pharmacokinetics

The release of magnesium and aluminum ions occurs gradually in the stomach, depending on the pH value.

Absorption of the drug occurs in the small intestine.

After ingestion, the content of magnesium and aluminum ions in the blood plasma temporarily increases, but penetration into the nervous and bone tissues does not occur (with normal kidney function). The absorbed part is excreted by the kidneys.

Indications

• acute gastritis, chronic gastritis with increased secretory function in the acute phase;
• acute and chronic duodenitis;
• peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum;
• reflux esophagitis;
• discomfort and pain in the epigastrium, heartburn, acid belching after errors in diet, excessive alcohol consumption, medication.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to hydrothalcite; children (up to 6 years).

With caution:  chronic renal failure, hypophosphatemia.

Side effects

When taking the drug, side effects are rare.

Possible allergic reactions, diarrhea, belching.

Interaction

Rutacid® reduces the absorption of tetracycline antibiotics, fluoroquinolones (ciprofloxacin, ofloxacin), coumarins, and iron preparations.

How to take, course of use and dosage

Inside, chewing thoroughly.

Adults and children over 12 years of age:  1-2 tablets 1 hour after meals 3-4 times a day and before going to bed.

Children from 6 to 12 years old:  take 1 tablet 2 times a day.

Treatment should be continued for 4 weeks.

Special instructions

The interval between the use of the drug and other medications should be at least 1-2 hours.

The use of Rutacid®is not recommended simultaneously with acid-containing beverages (juices, wine).

The drug Rutacid® it does not contain sucrose, so it can be used by patients with diabetes.

Polyols (mannitol) can cause diarrhea.
