Pharmacological action
Pharmacotherapy group: Anticongestive agent-alpha-adrenomimetic. Pharmacodynamica Naphazolinee-an alpha-adrenostimulating agent, has a rapid, pronounced and prolonged vasoconstrictor effect on the vessels of the mucous membranes of the nasal cavity, nasopharynx and paranasal sinuses-reduces swelling, hyperemia, exudation, which improves the patency of the nasal passages, facilitates nasal breathing. Along with this, the patency of the Eustachian tubes is restored.
The therapeutic effect occurs, as a rule, within 5 minutes after use of the drug and persists for 4-6 hours. After 5-7 days, tolerance occurs. The menthol and eucalyptol contained in the preparation have a cooling effect on the nasal mucosa, which gives a feeling of freshness.
Pharmacokinetics
When applied topically, systemic absorption is low. The vasoconstrictor effect occurs in a few minutes and lasts for several hours.
Indications
Acute rhinitis (including acute respiratory diseases and allergic rhinitis), sinusitis, eustachiitis, laryngitis, laryngeal edema of allergic origin, laryngeal edema due to radiation, mucosal hyperemia after upper respiratory tract surgery. To stop nosebleeds. To facilitate rhinoscopy.
Use during pregnancy and lactation
Use for the treatment of pregnant women and during breastfeeding is possible only if the expected benefit to the mother exceeds the potential risk to the fetus and child.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, arterial hypertension, severe atherosclerosis, hyperthyroidism, severe eye diseases, angle-closure glaucoma, chronic rhinitis, atrophic rhinitis, children under 18 years of age, diabetes mellitus, tachycardia, simultaneous use of monoamine oxidase inhibitors and up to 14 days after the end of their use.
With caution
Coronary heart disease (angina pectoris), prostatic hyperplasia, pheochromocytoma, pregnancy, breast-feeding period.
Side effects
Nausea, tachycardia, headache, increased blood pressure, reactive hyperemia, swelling of the nasal mucosa, irritation, when used for more than 1 week – swelling of the nasal mucosa, atrophic rhinitis.
Interaction
Do not use simultaneously with monoamine oxidase inhibitors or within 14 days after the end of their use. Slows down the absorption of local anesthetic drugs (extends their effect during surface anesthesia).
How to take, course of use and dosage
Intranasally (in each nasal passage), adults are prescribed 1-3 injections 3-4 times a day. Immediately after the injection, it is recommended to take a light breath through the nose. For diagnostic purposes – after cleaning the nose, inject once or insert a swab soaked in the drug solution into each nasal passage and leave for 1-2 minutes. Apply briefly, but not more than 1 week. If nasal breathing becomes easier, then the use of the drug can be completed earlier. Repeated use of the drug is possible in a few days.
Overdose
Symptoms: decreased body temperature, bradycardia, increased blood pressure. Treatment: symptomatic.
Special instructions
It may have a resorptive effect. With prolonged use, the severity of the vasoconstrictor effect gradually decreases (the phenomenon of tachyphylaxis), and therefore it is recommended to take a break for several days after 5-7 days of use. Due to the possible development of side effects from the cardiovascular and nervous systems, do not exceed the recommended dose of the drug. Avoid contact with the eyes. To avoid the spread of infection, it is necessary to use the drug individually.
Storage conditions
