Pharmacological action
Laxative of plant origin. It has a laxative effect that occurs after 8-10 hours. The laxative effect is due to the effect on the receptors of the large intestine, which increases peristalsis.
Indications
Constipation caused by hypotension and sluggish peristalsis of the large intestine.
Regulation of stool for hemorrhoids, proctitis, anal fissures.
Contraindications
- spastic constipation;
- intestinal obstruction;
- abdominal pain of unknown origin;
- pinched hernia; acute inflammatory diseases of the abdominal cavity;
- peritonitis;
- gastrointestinal and uterine bleeding;
- cystitis;
- disorders of water and electrolyte metabolism;
- hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.
With caution, it is prescribed for diseases of the liver and / or kidneys, during pregnancy, during breastfeeding, in conditions after oral surgery.
Side effects
From the digestive system: possible colic-like abdominal pain, flatulence; with prolonged use, especially in high doses, possible deposition of melanin in the intestinal mucosa, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea. From the side of metabolism: with prolonged use, especially in high doses, violations of water and electrolyte metabolism, deposition of melanin in the intestinal mucosa are possible. From the urinary system: with prolonged use, especially in high doses, albuminuria, hematuria, and urine discoloration are possible. From the central nervous system: with prolonged use, especially in high doses, convulsions, fatigue, confusion are possible. Dermatological reactions: with prolonged use, especially in high doses, a skin rash is possible. From the cardiovascular system: with prolonged use, especially in high doses, vascular collapse is possible.
Interaction
Long-term use of Senade in high doses may increase the effect of cardiac glycosides and affect the effect of antiarrhythmic drugs due to the possibility of hypokalemia.
When used concomitantly with thiazide diuretics, glucocorticoids, licorice root preparations, the risk of hypokalemia increases.
How to take, course of use and dosage
Taken orally usually 1 time a day in the evening before bedtime, washed down with water or some kind of drink.
Adults and children over 12 years of age: 1 tablet at a time.
If there is no effect, the dose can be increased to 2-3 tablets.
Children 6-12 years old: 1/2 tablet each and increase the dose to 1-2 tablets if necessary.
During the selection process, the same dose should be taken for several days and gradually increased by 1/2 tablet.
If defecation does not occur within 3 days after reaching the maximum dose, you should consult a doctor.
Overdose
The main adverse effect of overdose is diarrhea, which leads to dehydration.
Conservative measures include increasing fluid intake. This is usually enough to compensate for the loss of fluid and electrolytes.
In some cases, it is necessary to replace the loss of fluid and electrolytes with intravenous infusions of plasma substitutes.
Special instructions
It is not recommended to use the drug for more than 2 weeks.
After taking the drug, the urine may turn yellow-brown or red-lilac in color.
