Composition

10 ml of suspension contains: active ingredients: sodium alginate 1000 mg, potassium bicarbonate 200 mg, excipients: calcium carbonate 200 mg, carbomer 40 mg, methyl parahydroxybenzoate 40 mg, propyl parahydroxybenzoate 6 mg, sodium hydroxide 14.44 mg, sodium saccharinate 10 mg, mint flavor 6 mg, purified water up to 10 ml

Pharmacological action

Gaviscon Forte is a drug that forms a protective gel barrier and prevents stomach contents from entering back into the esophagus, preventing heartburn. It is very important that Gaviscon ® Forte is not absorbed into the blood. Therefore, it can be used to quickly relieve heartburn at any stage of pregnancy.

Indications

Symptomatic treatment of dyspepsia associated with increased acidity of gastric juice and gastroesophageal reflux (heartburn, acid belching, feeling of heaviness in the stomach after eating), including during pregnancy.

Use during pregnancy and lactation

It is possible to use the drug Gaviscon forte during pregnancy and lactation (breastfeeding).

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, children (up to 12 years).

Side effects

Possible:  allergic reactions – urticaria, bronchospasm, anaphylactic reactions.

Interaction

The composition of the drug includes calcium carbonate, which shows antacid activity, so between taking the drug Gaviscon® forte and other drugs should take at least 2 hours, especially when used simultaneously with histamine_H2-receptor blockers, tetracycline antibiotics, digoxin, fluoroquinolones, iron salts, ketoconazole, neuroleptics, thyroxine, penicillamine, beta-blockers, corticosteroids, chloroquine, diphosphates.

How to take, course of use and dosage

Inside.

Adults and children over 12 years of age: 5-10 ml after meals and before bedtime.

The maximum daily dose is 40 ml.

No dose adjustment is required in elderly patients.

Using teabags: before opening the teabag, remember it with your fingers, stirring the contents.

Overdose

Symptoms:  bloating.

Treatment:  conducting symptomatic therapy.

Special instructions

10 ml of the suspension contains 106 mg (4.6 mmol) of sodium and 78 mg (2 mmol) of potassium. This should be taken into account when it is necessary to follow a diet with a limited salt content (for congestive heart failure, impaired renal function) or when using medications that can cause the development of hyperkalemia at the same time.

Please note that 10 ml of the suspension contains 200 mg (2 mmol) of calcium carbonate. Therefore, the drug should be prescribed with caution for hypercalcemia, nephrocalcinosis and recurrent formation of kidney stones containing calcium.

If there is no improvement within 7 days, the patient should consult a doctor.

Influence on the ability to drive motor vehicles and manage mechanisms

The drug does not affect the ability to drive vehicles and mechanisms, as well as to engage in other potentially dangerous activities that require increased concentration of attention and speed of psychomotor reactions.
