Composition

Clinical pharmacology

The Active ingredient of the drug is chloramphenicol, a broad-spectrum antibiotic with high antibacterial activity against the causative agent of wound infection and various forms of purulent-inflammatory processes. Chloramphenicol is a bacteriostatic antibiotic that disrupts the process of protein synthesis in a microbial cell (having good lipophilicity, it penetrates the bacterial cell membrane and binds back to the 50S subunit of bacterial ribosomes, in which the movement of amino acids to growing peptide chains is delayed, which leads to a violation of protein synthesis). Active against most strains of gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms resistant to penicillin, tetracyclines, and sulfonamides. Promotes cleansing and healing of burn purulent wounds and trophic ulcers, accelerates epithelialization. It has no effect on acid-resistant bacteria (including Mycobacterium tuberculosis), anaerobes, methicillin-resistant strains of staphylococci, Acinetobacter spp., Enterobacter spp., Serratia marcescens, indole-positive strains of Proteus spp., Pseudomonas aeruginosa, protozoa, fungi and viruses.

Indications

Bacterial skin infections caused by sensitive microorganisms, including infected burns (superficial and limited deep), bedsores, trophic ulcers, boils.

Contraindications

Individual intolerance, inhibition of bone marrow hematopoiesis, acute intermittent porphyria, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, liver and kidney failure, skin diseases (psoriasis, eczema, fungal lesions), pregnancy, breast-feeding, newborn period (up to 4 weeks). With caution: early childhood; in patients who have previously received treatment with cytostatic drugs or radiation therapy.

Side effects

Allergic reactions: skin rash, angioedema. Hematopoietic disorders: reticulocytopenia, leukopenia, granulocytopenia, thrombocytopenia, erythropenia, aplastic anemia, agranulocytosis.

Interaction

When used concomitantly with erythromycin, clindamycin, lincomycin, there is a mutual weakening of the action due to the fact that chloramphenicol can displace these drugs from the bound state or prevent their binding to the 50S subunit of bacterial ribosomes. Reduces the antibacterial effect of penicillins and cephalosporins. Medications that inhibit bone marrow hematopoiesis increase the risk of myelosuppression.

How to take, course of use and dosage

Externally, the damaged areas are treated with a cotton swab soaked in a solution 2-3 times a day. Duration of treatment – according to indications, depending on the nature and location of the affected area.

Overdose

No cases of overdose have been reported.

Transparent colorless or colorless with a slightly yellowish tinge liquid with a characteristic smell of alcohol.

Special instructions

In the course of treatment, systematic monitoring of the peripheral blood picture is necessary. When applied to large surfaces with simultaneous intake of ethanol, disulfiram-like reactions may develop (skin hyperemia, tachycardia, nausea, vomiting, reflex cough, convulsions).

Levomycetin, bottle of 1%,25 mlFlacon of orange glass with a screw neck, capped with a cork and a screw-on lid. The bottle together with the instructions for use is placed in a pack of cardboard.

Storage conditions

In a dark place at a temperature of 15 to 25 °C. Keep out of reach of children.
