Novocaine is a local anesthetic.
It accumulates in the membranes of nerve fibers and endings and interacts with receptors located in potential-dependent sodium channels.
Reduces the permeability of membranes to sodium ions, preventing the emergence of an action potential and the conduct of a pain impulse.
Infiltration, conduction, epidural and spinal anesthesia; vagosympathetic and paranephral blockade; pain syndrome in gastric and duodenal ulcers, hemorrhoids, nausea.
Hypersensitivity.
Dizziness, weakness, hypotension, allergic reactions.
Prolongs neuromuscular blockade caused by suxamethonium (since both drugs are hydrolyzed by plasma cholinesterase).
Concomitant use with MAO inhibitors (furazolidone, procarbazine, selegelin) increases the risk of hypotension. Procaine toxicity is increased by anticholinesterase drugs (which inhibit its hydrolysis). The procaine metabolite (paraaminobenzoic acid) is a competitive antagonist of sulfonamide preparations and may weaken their antimicrobial action.
When treating the injection site of a local anesthetic with disinfection solutions containing heavy metals, the risk of developing a local reaction in the form of soreness and swelling increases.
Potentiates the action of direct anticoagulants.
Preprate reduces the effect of anticholinesterase agents on neuromuscular transmission.
Possible cross-sensitisation.
After releasing the candle from the contour package with scissors (cutting the package along the contour of the candle), insert it deep into the anus (after a cleansing enema or spontaneous release of the intestine) 1-2 times a day.
Symptoms: pallor of the skin and mucous membranes, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, increased nervous excitability, cold sweat, tachycardia, decreased blood pressure almost to collapse, tremor, convulsions, apnea, methemoglobinemia, respiratory depression, sudden cardiovascular collapse. The effect on the central nervous system is manifested by a feeling of fear, hallucinations, convulsions, motor excitement. In cases of overdose, the drug should be discontinued immediately. When performing local anesthesia, the injection site can be pricked with epinephrine.
Treatment: general resuscitation measures, which include oxygen inhalation, if necessary, artificial ventilation of the lungs. If seizures last more than 15-20 seconds, they are stopped by intravenous use of thiopental (100-150 mg) or diazepam (5-20 mg). In case of arterial hypotension and/or myocardial depression, ephedrine (15-30 mg) is administered intravenously, in severe cases detoxification and symptomatic therapy. In case of intoxication after injection of novocaine into the muscles of the leg or arm, an urgent tourniquet is recommended to reduce the subsequent intake of the drug into the general bloodstream.
