Polinadim eye drops are a combination drug used topically.
One of the components, diphenhydramine (diphenhydramine), has a pronounced anti-allergic effect, blocks histamine H1 receptors, reducing itching, swelling, and lacrimation.
The second Active ingredient, naphazoline (known as naphthyzine), narrows peripheral blood vessels for a long time, and when used topically, reduces inflammation and swelling.
The use of the drug during pregnancy and lactation (breastfeeding) is possible only if the intended benefit to the mother exceeds the possible risk to the fetus or child.
Use in children
Contraindication: children under 2 years of age.
The drug should be used with caution when: :
Local reactions may develop – conjunctival irritation, burning, redness, itching in the eye area, visual acuity disorders, increased intraocular pressure, pupil dilation, pain in the eye area, dryness of the nasal mucosa. After discontinuation of the drug, the reactions pass.
One case of corneal opacity was recorded (Polinadim eye drops were instilled at least 10 times a day for a week), the symptoms also disappeared after the eye drops were discontinued.
In rare cases (mainly in children and elderly patients), an increased heart rate, pallor of the skin, pain in the heart area, increased blood pressure, increased sweating, headache, trembling, drowsiness, dizziness, nausea may develop.
When used concomitantly with tricyclic antidepressants, the vasoconstrictor effect of naphazoline may be enhanced.
The use of MAO inhibitors simultaneously with naphazoline or within 10 days after their withdrawal may lead to a hypertensive crisis.
In the acute period, adults are instilled 1 drop into the conjunctival sac every 3 hours until the irritation and swelling of the eye decreases. Continue 1 drop 2-3 times a day-until the clinical symptoms disappear.
Children over 2 years of age are instilled 1-2 drops per day.
It is not recommended to use Polinadim for more than 5 days without a doctor’s recommendation.
If symptoms of conjunctival irritation persist for 72 hours, stop using Polinadim eye drops and consult an ophthalmologist.
With topical application of the drug, overdose is unlikely.
Symptoms: Â in children under 6 years of age, prolonged and frequent use may lead to CNS depression, hypothermia, prolonged mydriasis, increased blood pressure, and tachycardia.
Treatment: Â conducting symptomatic therapy.
Do not use the drug more often than every 3 hours (for 5 days).
The drug is not intended for oral use or injection.
In case of symptoms that indicate systemic absorption, it is necessary to stop using the drug.
For allergy symptoms and during treatment with the drug, it is not recommended to use soft contact lenses. If their use is necessary, the lenses should be removed before instillation and installed back, no earlier than 15 minutes.
Influence on the ability to drive motor vehicles and manage mechanisms
Since visual clarity is temporarily impaired after instillation, patients should refrain from driving vehicles and activities that require visual clarity immediately after using the drug.
